Hi All,

There will be a BARF gathering of vintage and classic bikes, and interested peeps, at the observatory parking lot on the summit of Mt. Hamilton on June 14th. We will meet at 12:00p.m.

Budman has been kind enough to offer to cater the event but needs to know how many people to expect so please post a response if you plan on attending.

For this gathering bikes are considered vintage, classic or antique if the owner considers it so.

Either road to the summit of Mt. Hamilton (Mines Rd. from Livermore or Mt. Hamilton Rd. from San Jose) is gorgeous but steep and narrow with many tight curves. The views from the top are magnificent. If you have just passed the MSF test this may not be the best ride for you yet. Anyone else can make it but please be careful and safe.

Again, please post if you plan on participating so we know how many to expect.

I will be leaving from the corner of Mines Rd. and Del Valle Rd. in Livermore at 10:00 if anyone wants to ride up together from this side. I hope someone will offer to lead from the San Jose side but it is impossible to miss if you decide to ride up on your own.

I will make this and I will attempt to get some of the local RZ/RD crowd to join in.

Hopefully all of the triples that went on the last two spring time barf vintage rides will join in. Yes???

Thanks for setting this up.

Oh yes, I will be coming up the Livermore side.

I'm in. I will be wearing vintage colors.

What is vintage enough. 20 plus years? Our is it vintage riders as in old farts.

I think I qualify.

I am just worried my vintage bike won't make it up and down that mountain. Should just go to Alice's or somewhere easy and not too far from Civilization.

Down is easy as long as you can find neutral and the wheels don't fall off :laughing.

Bah. All part of the fun, wouldn't be a vintage ride without the risk of a breakdown. Maybe put the BARF angels on alert though :). And anyone who gives you shit is inviting some serious bad karma.

A year ago or so I met a rider on a 1915 Harley with one gear who rode from SJ over Mt. Hamilton to the junction and then back the way he came. Said he had to slip the clutch ( belt? ) a little on some of the steep sections.

Your Kawi is almost 10 years newer than the bike I'm hoping will make it up and back. :)
Keep the faith. You can make it.

I might make the run up the hill to see all the vintage bikes. Family commitment just got canceled.:teeth

I will park the K1600GT away from the old bikes, so no newness rubs off. :twofinger

Does a 2012 Sportster qualify as vintage since the suspension and brakes are nearly identical to any mid 70's Japanese bike? This is my only running bike at the moment...

I'll see you guys tomorrow. I'll be on my '63 Honda Trail 55.

I'll probably truck my Honda Cub somewhere and ride it up, or go to the Observatory and ride with everyone down, then back up after. hahaha

I've done Mines/San Antonio/MtHam a few times already, so I might just throw a ramp and some recent gas in the truck and cruise that for those 'vintage' rides whose rectifiers stopped de-regulating, fuel filters clogged, brakes seized, fuse blown, or gawd knows what else can happen to old bikes, instead of riding. Don't know yet. hard to pass up a catered lunch.:ride

Forget the catering. Have everyone meet at the Junction instead and just buy them lunch. Helps out the good folks that run the place, and then all the Mount Hammie regulars can enjoy seeing your old rides. I'll see you there if you venture out that far.
