Thanks to the fish taco eating and tequila swilling little baby Jesus, Barf Baja 2016 is about to commence!
arty

This thread may get pretty unorganized, hope to use it as a depository for updates when available and recounting the trip itself. I am sure upon our return there will be a number individual ride report threads (merlin
)
There is a spotwalla acct to track us. Dmitry, stepping up from his role as stand in rider, chase truck driver, russian beer swiller, and part time mechanic last year will be riding fulltime on this trip and has set it up for us.
You can follow us here on Spotwalla. The password is Bajahaha
There has been a flurry of activity for the riders these past weeks getting the bikes, trailers, trucks, and bodies ready for this years trip. We have had some last minute drama ranging from electrical issues, scrounging or fedexing parts, to last minute wheel rebuilds. But its on like Donkey Kong. The group has really come together to help overcome these last minute issues with the offer of parts, expertise, and good natured ridicule.
With only a couple of exceptions, the group is leaving Friday for the Border. If all goes as planned, we should be at our staging point in Bola by nightfall Saturday.
ThumperX will be our trip's angel this year as she could not make it due to a last minute conflict. We have a great group of returning riders and 5 newbies. Pretty wide range of abilities and Mexico experience. Honda's and KTM's equally represented and two oddballs with a Suzuki and Kawasaki (there are always those that just have to be different
.) No chase truck or Bossdog.
It will be about 800-1000 miles of riding, the majority offroad that includes a mix of familiar routes from last year and a number of new options. One of those new options will be the No Wimps Trail three of us will attempt. Should make the calle de muerte ride last year look easy. From what I have gleaned from the internet, few (if any) mortals have successfully completed it on bikes since the last hurricane. This trip is guaranteed to produce stories.
I am hoping all the participants can add a bio and picture here as well. Might be useful in tracking us in case we get lost south of the border.
So I'll start
Rider: Oaklandf4i
Bike: XR
Bikes Name: Bubbles... because it sounds like a trailer park strippers name and that's appropriate!
Baja Experience: Many years
Ever arrested in Baja: please dont tell my family
Baja Wisdom: Mayo is actually good on hotdogs (learned from mexican truck driver)
Favorite Baja beverage: Naranja Fanta and Tequila
Baja theme song: Dwight Twilley "I"m on fire"
Sponsors: My family. Big thanks to my sister (Klim pants and new Maxxis Desert IT tires) and my Aunt (Giant Loop bag, new Racetech race light and Endurance computer)
Wish us luck!
