Crap. I was wondering why there was so much traffic. Prayers to the rider and family.

Sad to hear this. RIP

I heard it was a DUI driver that pulled out in front of the rider.

:rose

I heard it was a left turner that got 'em.

From the Santa Rosa Press Democrat:
A 50-year-old East Bay man died Sunday afternoon after his motorcycle collided with an oncoming car on Arnold Drive near Sonoma, authorities said.

The Pleasant Hill motorcyclist, whose name was not released, was traveling south toward Wagner Road at an unknown speed when a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu turned directly into his path about 12:52 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

The Malibu driver, identified as Warren J. Saccente, 61, of Purcellville, Va., had been traveling east on a private driveway at 23555 Arnold Dr. After stopping at the intersection with the road, the driver saw a southbound vehicle turning into the private drive. Believing the intersection to be clear, the Malibu began to turn onto northbound Arnold Drive — right into the path of the 1997 Harley Davidson, the CHP said.

The motorcyclist braked and “attempted to take evasive action” but could not prevent a collision with the Malibu, according to a CHP news release. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The rider was southbound here (Google Maps link) and the driver was turning left from the winery on the west side. Another southbound vehicle entering the winery at the same time screened the view between the motorcyclist and the left-turning driver.

RIP, Pleasant Hill Harley rider. :rose

Not sure regarding the DUI. However, I saw the CHP accident paint marks and riding into work this morning. I commute 121 regularly and that private driveway as well as the turn just after into the Sunset market area are always dangerous. RIP Harley rider.

RIP, fellow 50-year old rider. May his loved ones find peace.

There was a post from years ago, and if the old noggin has it right, it was maybe yours, pointing to the untimely passing of a rider (and maybe the passenger too) exactly in this kind of situation of staying hidden behind a vehicle from another incoming vehicle. Those words have stayed with me all these years, and I am very thankful for that post. Actually, just 2 weeks ago, that very scenario was could've unfolded with me, and the lesson learnt years ago spared shedloads of tears.

He has now been identified as Armando Fabila. RIP, Armando. :rose

My first post on this crash scenario was in 2004, The Rolling Blind Spot. It also comes up in the threads Traffic Tactics: Left-Turning Vehicles and Hidden Hazards. Thank you for mentioning it. It's gratifying to hear that it may have saved your butt.

Godspeed Armando. :(

Dan your threads have created insight with quite a few people.
I being one! Very grateful for your effort.

Rip Armando and my condolence to your family and friends.

I think it's a bit more than "may have". It was exact the situation you've used years ago. I was following a SUV with ~2 seconds worth of distance. The SUV signaled right. Over at the junction, a white saloon pulled up at the far side of the junction like when somebody will turn right. I gave more space to the SUV, turned on the high beams, tucked to right and weaved, hopefully catching the attention of the saloon's driver. By the time the SUV turned right and got out of the way, the white saloon was already in the middle of the lane, obviously unaware of the motorbike, right where my path would otherwise had been, had not been for your old post.

Armando's passing will not go in vain. It'll reinforce an old lesson. I am very thankful to you both.

This hits home. My deep condolences to his family and friends.

I commute daily on Arnold Drive from Glen Ellen to the 116 crossing. The various business and residential driveways through Fetters/Boyes Srpings, El Verano and Temelec can be a tough span to navigate, especially with drivers being anxious to get "their" spot on the two lane road.

It's a terrible reminder to stay vigilant.
