legal recreational pot in CA

I don't really smoke weed anymore, can't even remember the last time I bought any. I sometimes think it would be nice to smoke a joint, but don't want to go out of my way for it. I could see buying it now, if my local corner store starts carrying it.

I didn't inhale?

I'm not good with weed (I fall asleep) but I'll be glad that I no longer have to sweat hosting friends who partake if the PD shows up. It happened once but the LEOs ignored the obvious aroma, they just asked us to be quieter.

I am gonna blast "Insane in the Membrane" on 01-01, though. :teeth

I supose i might go against my better judgement and see what all the fuss is about...

:cool

If you have all your ducks in a row, including your full retirement, knock yourself out. If that is not the case, and you are spending 200-300 a month that is money you should be putting into your old age fund.

but the munchie meal is less than $5, how so you extrapolate $200-300? the avg monthly cost of developing a pot habit?

Jack in the Box is going to make the Merry Munchie Meals available. Are you going to try it?

How is legalization going to affect your usage?

And if you have not tried pot before, will you start, because it is going to be legal on Jan. 1?

It's been legal (state law only) since it was passed November 2016. On Jan 1, the commercial cultivation, manufacturing, and sales become legal for all, 21 and over, without a medical recommendation.

There are still plenty who can't partake due to their jobs, as it is still an illegal controlled substance by federal law, and many companies have no drug policies with random drug testing, including for marijuana. I would especially expect that companies, like interstate trucking companies, or other companies who do business in multiple states, to maintain their policies against any marijuana consumption.

I doubt that will happen anytime soon. The law allows for local jurisdictions to ban commercial cultivation, manufacturing, and sales in their jurisdiction, and it is my understanding that many cities have already done this. What is allowed will be controlled by state and local laws. It will basically be similar to what we currently have with medical marjuana dispensaries, without the need for a medical recommendation any longer. I also expect a growing market segment in the areas that do allow them. I think it will be a long time, if ever, that we will see commercial sales at the local gas stations and liquor stores along with liquor and tobacco products. Maybe some day.

well i didn't want to be splitting hairs on this thread but Jan 1st is a significant date since the passing of Prop.64 in that it is the official opening of the adult-use market in California.

on Nov 9, there were no adult-use pot shops licensed to operate. An adult wanting to use pot recreationally could not walk into a medicinal marijuana dispensary without a medical card to make a purchase.

on 1/1/2018, an adult can make a purchase from a dispensary/retailer that has a temporary license from the state to sell recreational pot. to illustrate how outreaching this is to the general public and its potential to change attitudes about pot, a large fast food chain is going to sell munchie meals.

so the reasoning behind my original post was, now that it will be as easy to buy pot as it is walking into a liquor store to buy liquor, does that change your habit or will you start? that was all there was to it.

I live one state over, where recreational pot could be conviently purchased by any adult at dispensaries around the middle of this year. It did not change my habit, and believe that tourists make up a large portion of the sales.

The barrier/inconvenience of obtaining pot when it was illegal, was so small that I would be surprised to hear that a significant portion of the population would be willing to try it now that it was legal, if they had not previously.

Personally I don't care for it, and legalization won't make a difference to my usage.

That said, I have elderly relatives out of state with medical issues for which marijuana has proven beneficial - glaucoma, etc. I'd love to be able to get some for them when they visit.

Yeah, having to go to a dispensary is not my scene. Don't care for weed culture.

The convenience on a whim is the only chance there would be of me buying weed.

I quit smoking weed about 7 years ago. So won't affect me...I might look into the availability of CBD though. I'd like to see if it can treat my migraines.

I thought you were allowed to grow plants for your personal use. Wouldn't that be the easiest way to get your weed? And the cheapest?

Yep 6 plants,

I already get blazed all day errrr day!!!! Let’s keep this shit going.. now the police won’t harass me over a silly recommendation!!!!

I'll continue to abstain. Feds and employers are still major dicks about it so it's not worth it to me. I know a few people who lost great jobs solely because someone dropped a dime on them for shopping at a dispensary. Zero tolerance drug policy - for an office environment.

I was hoping all our stupid backward thinking on a lot of shit would die off with the boomers and their elders. But, good ol America, we have plenty of people willing to double down on stupid so maybe things will never be that great.

yes that is correct. though i guess it makes a difference on how elaborate the setup is, how many plants you're growing, if one is to use special lamps that use up a lot of energy...

i am not a smoker, never will be. i've seen enough people gasping for air on their last days on earth. not going to introduce another risk to endanger my health. if there happens to be well-established bakeries that crop up in the future making premium goods, i might try a sample ...

dam, that's strict

i'm glad you mention the Feds, "legal in California" still feels like a gray area to me. makes sense then to grow and enjoy in the privacy of your own home, one that you own and not have any landlord tell you what you can and cannot do.
