I did my first overnighter in a while last weekend: rode over the Hopland Grade, to Skaggs (didn't get enough during Kato's group ride the weekend prior), over to the coast, down Highway 1, & spent the night in Marin County with my parents.

The Hopland Grade is a good fun road. Tight, blind corners (watch out for oncoming cars) and good pavement quality. Nice views too.

You can see Clear Lake in the distance.

After the Hopland Grade, I rode down 101 to Skaggs, and stopped for a quick photo op at Lake Sonoma.

After riding the good portion of Skaggs, I looked back & snapped a pic.

And its not as if what was next was all bad.

Finally, I made it to the coast & rode down Highway 1.

You can see bits of the road here & there.

Just don't screw up on these corners. Its a long way down if you do.

I made my way into Tomales Bay & saw this old boat,

then rode down to Point Reyes & made a quick side trip, to ride Limantour Road,

a lonely set of twisties, that ends at the beach.

Finally, I made my way to Novato, stopping at Stafford lake for a pic. See the hill on the left, I grew up in a house at the base of it.

Here. My parents don't live there anymore. They sold it about a year ago, and are retiring to Nevada, but are keeping an apartment through the end of the year until my Dad retires.

I took pretty much the same route home on Sunday, but got a late start and didn't stop for pics. Overall though, it was a great way to spend the weekend. Thanks for looking.

Nice! I've always liked Stafford Lake. Thanks for the report.

Beautiful pics. Thanks for posting them.

BTW, you forgot to mention that Hopland Grade is mostly gravel, there are bears and snakes everywhere and its nowhere close to Skaggs. Oh and it rains up there all the time.

Very cool pics. I'm planing a trip up 1 to seattle in august. Your pics are like a preview of my ride. Nice bike to!

That is probably my favorite loop of all time, hard to believe we even have 1 road as good as skaggs - let alone linking dozens of them together

I agree. Laast time I was there, I swore I'd never go that way again ..don't do it.
