Mission: To find a road that's not in Pashnit.com that would connect to a good destination. The more of a goat trial, the better... Last time, I did Willms road, a small strech connecting 132 to 108.
I woke up @ 5:30 am and was on my way @ 6am. Plan was to take 132 to La Grange & then Marsha Flat road from 132 to 49 but I missed it, searching for gas. Instead, I took 132 all the way to 49 and then went up on 49 to Groveland.
From Groveland, I decided to take Big oak rd to Wards Ferry road to Yosemite road to Tolumne to Buchanan Rd to Cotton creek road. From Cotton creek, it is as seen on Pashnit.com to Cherry lake and on to 120. Except, there is sand & gravel on quite a few turns on rt 14.
After that, I doubled back on 49 to ride a road that's in all my Sierra rides - 108. After all, it is open only 6 months in a year...but this time, I took some pics.
After goofing around taking pics and then reading a book (O Jeruselum) @ 9500 ft (I had earlier planned on reading the book @ Cherry lake, but Sonora pass was a lot cooler there than the banks of Cherry lake), I reached Walker around 6:10 pm! I decided to speed up, since I still had another 200+ miles to go! Blasting past hwy 89 with the clock ticking, - well, over the speed limit
- I came across 2 deers running across the road, at full lean, but with good enough distance to spare. Thankfully, I braked and the bambi crossed w/o any incident.
I reached 89/88 intersection @ 7 and decided to take the easy way home instead of the planned hwy 4 route (sunset was in 30 minutes and I was still in summer time frame, thinking it would set around 8 pm
). Took hwy 50 to 5 to 205 to 580 to 680 to 237 to good old home in Sunnyvale @ 11:30pm.
Mile count: 668.5 miles! That along with last weekend's 3 day ride where I clocked 1200 odd miles...Damn, at this rate, I need a donation fund for my rear tire
.
What follows are a few pics.
Oh, if you are coming from 120 going West after visiting Cherry lake, do not tank up at the first station you see on your left in Groveland. He charges $3+ for regular! There are gas stations further down where the price is $1 less!
