This is the next project for the Sportbike Dyanamics Monster Garage. Installing all kinds of goodies on a 2003 GSXR1000. This is the Stage 1 Camshaft Kit from Yoshmura Racing. More pics to follow as I get into it. Stay tuned for serious horsepower.

You can always put 'em in my bike if you're getting antsy. :teeth

You bring your bling in and leave it with me for a while, give me your Visa card and I'll put you on the grid at the next AMA race.

You'd have to go see your doctor to get a prescription for courage pills. :laughing :laughing :laughing

how long is this project going to take alan? any estimated figures for horsepower, etc? i can't wait to see the bike. what were the deciding factors on choosing the gsxr over some of the other current literbikes?

yeah where you gonna take it to get dyno'ed? for a project such as this it would be really nice to have before and after dyno runs to confirm where and how much hp is actually gained vs. money put it. not to mention it helps out a ton with getting the motor and mapping dialed in.

Supply and demand.

My customer said he wanted a SCARY FAST bike. His Visa card said yes. Now we're waiting for the rest of the parts to arrive.
Yoshimura Racing makes some pretty stout parts for the big Gixxers. With the remap and the rest of the goodies, this set up should be good for about 35 more horsepower.:wowI told him to buy Dunlop stock. It's about to go up with all this increase in demand.

:laughing

35 hp increase is going to mean a minimum of full pipe, remap, cams, valves, valve springs a little head work and maybe the bigger airbox. steve and peter work really hard to get the motors to put out serious hp, all the secrets aren't in the catalog :cool

Only thing I hate about Yosh is that they stop making the parts after a few years. I'd do anything for some Yosh cams for a slingshot head.

Are you caught up enough yet to answer some questions about Mikuni parts?

nobody on 1 of the gixxer boards has any to sell? pretty normal for a company to stop making race parts after the bike is no longer being raced. whats the mikuni ? ?

I need one of the offset adjuster nuts for the slides. I have all four lock screws, but only three slide adjuster nuts. I also need a good 1/4 turn throttle. The throttle I have on it I have to slide my hand forward to get WOT. Also the carbs have really stiff springs, make it a pain in the ass to open fast. With the 1/4 turn throttle I'm also going to need a slim kill switch/starter switch to replace the stock one. Not enough room on the bar otherwise.

Oh, and the carbs are Mikuni RS38's.

Oh, and as far as old Yosh gixxer race parts go, the case covers can be had on ebay pretty cheap, but things like cams and the Yosh Mikuni magnesium flatslides are as good as gold.

I'll probably go with Mega Cycle cams eventually, but I'm not going to dump too much money into this engine...rather wait till I get the 1200 and slap the slingshot head on it. :teeth

you can get the nut from "carb parts warehouse" or "sudco" or you might be able to match something up. motion por makes a couple different 1/4 turns. parts unlimited sells them. yosh made them for a while, not sure if they still do. the rs smooth-bores have stiff springs because they're not CV (constant velocity) carbs and the slides movment ratio is 1:1 with throttle movement. if you get softer springs its going to fall on its face when you 1st open the throttle

I'll keep the springs on the carbs, just want a little help at my wrist.

Won't you always bog pretty bad with flatslides if you try opening it up too fast under say 4K rpm? It would always catch after, but anything under 4K and I'd bog if I cave it more than like 1/4 throttle or so. Of course it made up for it over 9K when I was hanging on.

pretty much, but having it dyno tuned will help a lot. i've also seen guys shave the throttle wheel to give it a more progressive ramp. keeping the airbox is also a good idea, @ least on newer bikes.
