Poor girl has been subject to field maintenance, for too many years.
I have two bike dealers in town, for a BIG change. Almost instant new parts gratification, whoopee.
New plastics, tone down the bright white, add another 3/4 gallon, bigger tank.
I overhauled the steering bearings, before @ 6 K miles, back to notchy turning feel, and repair.
I asked for a tapered roller setup, and it was available, no instructions, flying blind.
Working on setting the lower race, top bearing. I have about $ 40 in grade 8, 1/2 X 8" bolt and washers.
Set in place and sitting way proud, but it all barely fits, I can get three turns on the tension nut.
The stack is higher, and the stock bearing overseal won't fit/thread, I need to find a plastic bottle to make a overseal, to keep the grease in place.
New rear fender, new seat, and new muffler, all set.
Forks with new seals, gaiters, and oil.
Had to replace the gas cap already, plastic, heat and fumes caused it to split, I GOOPed it back together, saved for a spare, got an aluminum cap.

Extra length bearing stack,
with triple clamp,
Stock overseal, above tension nut, needing some shielding.
Won't thread in place below tension nut with the supplied bearing seal in.

I would seriously reconsider your steering head bearing alteration. The motorcycle frame wasn't designed for the height of that bearing race.

Yep, I can see that.
How fast do I need to hit that big rock to rip the top bearing race right out of the steering stem?
Considering the effort needed to set that lower race in place, I don't think it will roll out of place, that easy.
I did think of the hybrid version, lower tapered, and top stock ball bearing, the ones that keep failing. They would fit like stock, and fail like stock.
My TW is a low speed trail bike, I can go too fast with it and start swapping ends, upgrading the suspension, wouldn't help with that balloon tire.
If it gets squirrelly, I can change it out.

TW's are fun bikes. we have a few in our (Pacific Motorcycle Training) school fleet

Did a bit O' weather proofing.
A spent inner tube has given its life, to roll. Then another life, , ,
So many uses for a dirt guy.
Here, a skirt over the bearing stack. I used the stock cup, over the tension nut, and glued some tube to it.
I hung the rest of the front end, and started the bleed. New caliper complete, and a master rebuild kit, and a $20. "special master cylinder snap ring pliers" saved that job.
I filled it and got a dribble out the bottom, working out the air, I rapped the line and master with a screwdriver handle, big drop in fluid level, better flow out the bottom, gotta beat them bubbles out !
I do have pressure at the lever, and left it overnite to settle, should be an easy finish.
Wire in my binary translator, as seen in the "What the hell did I buy" thread, a little more assembly, she should run.
Still waiting for the final piece, Mudly is getting a kickstarter, I have the internal parts, still waiting for the kick lever.

Assembled and running,
New seat is hard, last one was too, but the texture is way grippy.
Steering has lost the notchy, set points thru its travel, and smooth as butter.
I did lose the steering lock, new bearing stack too tall to work.
Doesn't leak gas thru the float any more, new o ring fixed it, new needle valve for fun.
My tire gauge failed, won't hold the mark, bleeds off before I can read it. Possibly overinflated.
New muffler, feeling a bit choked after years of rusted out racket, & getting louder, done.
Front brake now works again, was really marginal, past four years of desert.
Need to schedule some shop time for the kickstarter install, all parts are in, now.
My binary translator works, riding up a two track/one lane dirt road with blind rights, I did feel safer about anything coming my way. But nothing there.
Not done with the mask, looking to put my old race number in place, to finish it.

She looks a bit Jane, what about the yellow/black tape, that pops, but needs more to tie it in.
I do have a collection of vintage stickers, I haven't seen in years, , ,
