How specific are starter relays?

Mine went out and I ordered one from the dealer, but can I go to an auto parts store and get one with the same number of terminals/connections?

What bike? The only thing which will really matter is the control connector end

I'm not concerned with the plug end, just the power part of it. I can make a secure connection if the component itself is compatible.

It looks much more like this than your pic, but it also has a pair of small gauge wires going to a connection into the factory loom (haven't looked at the schematic but I would have to assume the starter button):

Sounds like anything automotive / moto etc.. will work for you (as long as the AMP rating on the main poles is good [big harleys might take more kinda thing]....

You can always jam a big screwdriver across the 2 main poles..... in a pinch :ROFLMAO:

A relay designed for a car will be able to handle any current that a motorcycle will draw. But I don’t know that a car relay will fit into the socket on your bike.

You could take your old relay into an auto parts store and see if they have one that will fit.

And if the original relay has a name and PN on it, you might search for a new one that way.

And since many parts on motorcycles are the same across different bikes and brands, you might find a replacement that way.

I’d just wait for the proper part.

I've got a generic in my Honda. Looks like Dmitriy's picture. Works without a problem. Even holds a spare fuse.

that looks like a "ford" starter solenoid. i've seen similar at home depot and the like in the lawnmower section. +1 as long as the amp rating is similar it's going to be fine. automotive units are comparatively huge though, fitting it back in the bike might be a problem.

All comments very much appreciated. I ordered one from the dealer that should be here by Friday.

I may swing by Auto Zone on the way home this afternoon and see what they have anyway.
