The Future of Ca OHV is at Stake

Bump bump bump.. because we need our whoops whoops whoops..

Save our trails and OHV Parks...!!! This taking away of funding may well lead to closures once the parks start going down hill because of funding.

The writing on the wall says to me.

"Our OHV Park system has major problems and we don't have the funding to fix the problems to they will have to be closed"

:bump

I called and emailed, once again the email call to action from AMA made it easy :thumbup

Yeah..right on AMA.

Watch for more news on a rally at the senators office next week.

Frankly I am mad that Butch and my effort to meet with him for a month was dismissed until the last minute.

No respect for a constituent, biz man.. barf man. I will beg all to show up. That is how much this means to me.

Didn't they raid the fund a couple months ago? And now they're back for the rest? These "representatives" of our are a fucking joke. :|

IMO Anyone "ANYONE" who owns and rides a motorcycle even if not in the dirt should take a stand on this. You may think it does not effect you it does in so many ways.

Got a link to a site that talks about how it affects all riders? I feel it does too, but my feelings are general and amorphous. Maybe some well-reasoned explanations can shift some fence-sitters.

I do not think it will (I will expand in last paragraph), as I believe that most people just do not give a shit about anything but themselves. I have no links, no science, no proof but experience and what I have seen being involved for many years.

An example is the Sound issue, people could give a rats about that, then suddenly City's are passing ordinances, and states are signing stupid legislation and it all began with leaf blowers.

Last Paragraph
When the sound issue hit the dirt riders some few years back and compliance to a 96db level was enforced. Many of us took up the drums and started the chant and warning this is going to be a hail storm. From Solidifying a standard Testing Process to certification of equipment used we warned many how this is going to trickle out. Then Mountain Bikers were attacked, one of the same groups turning their noses up at Moto, then Horses also turning their noses up. Then cities started to enforce noise levels, all the while groups who should be supporting Brother and Sisters stood idle and said None My Bidness. (I SAID ONE PARAGRAPH RIGHT :wtf ) until some areas of some town you no longer can ride through during certain hours and or at all. A google search will prove this hell search AMA archives for Action Alerts) But don't take my word for it, because our OHV funds pay for more than just Moto-Related Parks, Equestrians, Hikers, Bird Watchers all Share form our Coffers in many of the State Parks we fund with Equal Access trails.

OK, that's cool. I totally get your perspective. (And I bet it'd be different if we had a slew of folks chiming in in the thread, but we don't.) Thanks for responding though. :thumbup

My perspective is enforced with the silence. I have gone head to head with our own community over issues of OHV land legislation and closures. I also see and read as many townships are taking up positions to ban or regulate motorcycles in their towns. Being an AMA member has alerted me to many of these infringements as they are battling these issues.

I also know that as in the case of CCMA Clear creek, It got closed and all those sitting on there hands doing nothing for the 13 years as many beat the drum suddenly cried foul and then the dust clears and it is still the same handful of people holding the flame.

people just dont give a shit,

You guys have been doing a great job responding to critical issue. I got this from a friend:

We will need to comment on this Merc News article...its facts are flawed and we need to get the editorial Board's attention. ($21 Million is not to develop OHV parks). This money is to operate and run the OHV parks...Places like Metcalf and they don't even get it! I will have some comments to attach to the end of the article in just a bit...

We will write a rebuttal that I will post. If any of you did the same it would be great. Quantity and repetition add credibility. Whether it is true or not, unfortunately.

I am having some difficulty figuring out an email to send this to at the merc:

Wow, the cutbacks at the Mercury News appear to have finally resulted in an overworked editorial board forgoing their traditional scholarship and falling for a slapdash legislative solution for solving the Parks’ problem from an opportunist like Senator Joe Simitian.

Think about it: Simitian dragged a fellow legislator into his office and without the input of Parks, or the Department of Finance, or the Brown Administration, or anyone from whose funds he is raiding, wrote a solution that feeds an in trouble parks program at the expense of programs that work. We expect a stunt like this from a career politician like Simitian.

We always look forward to a more balanced and reasoned approach from the venerable Mercury News.

Looks like Butch will get to ask him face to face Friday.

shit! That's the start of the BARF Rally, Butch you need backup? Plans can be re-prioritized.

Butch and I are both going along with some real experts on the subject.

We will just roll to the rally a little later.

Should make for a lively discussion later.. :teeth

I at least get to purchase a cocktail for you two!

I didn't purchase a cocktail for either of them; I did however supply them both with Aspirin. Perhaps better than a cocktail :dunno

The meeting with the Simian was interesting. He was pretty straightforward, and pretty much mostly interested in furthering his own career. He said that the funding could be replaced with future revenue from the "cap and trade" taxes. That could reflect his opinion of the public at large, though it was directed at me at the time. Amazing.

Amy Granat from CORVA joined us. She was awesome. I've dealt with the AMA and BRC as our representation for OHV issues. I would rather not add another organization to my list of memberships, but CORVA might be our best team member.

Amy is professional and is willing to step up and contribute. She is awesome. Please, everyone, join...
