LOL, now you know. Mid to Late 40's is what is known as the, "End of Useful Life," Period, which is where all of us "Last Days of X," kids are now at. The zeitgeist is slipping past us and our meaningful contributions to society (Art, Music, Technology) is coming to an end.

50's is the Extended Warranty Period, where you probably are not a useful contributor anymore and mainly focus on taking power from the rapidly dying off previous generation, and anything after 60 is Bonus Time, where you hang on while watching your whole generation die off a piece at a time until you go too.

What I've come to realize is, the damn kids don't need me, so, either I join their IG party or I'm here texting my ever shrinking circle of friends who aren't busy being responsible adults.

TBH, when I entered all my personal info I was disingenuous from the first to the last.

There is no need for classmates from 1966 finding me. If I wanted to be in contact in the last fifty-four years I would have initiated it by now. Same with ex-lovers, casual riding partners or friends of in-laws who thought I might have something for them.

Social media is just shouting into the abyss. And you remember Simone Elkeles and what she said: "Opinions are like assholes, everybody's got one and everyone else's stinks."

But my FB is still valid. Can't see a downside to just stasis.

I have a FB account. I don't have the app on my phone. I use Brave browser to view it. On my desktop, I have FB Purity to cut out a lot of stuff. I use it to communicate with fellow Arsenal FC supporters here in the bay area, Marketplace, and family back home in the Philippines who mainly use FB Messenger and WhatsApp. I've unfollowed pretty much everyone who I'm "friends" with on there. My feed is boring as shit. I don't use FB to connect to any services. I use Disconnect for Chrome to stop some tracking.

For IG, its mainly following motorcycle and auto sport related things that I enjoy. But, it's been trash since they moved away from chronological order. Which I heard they are going to bring back.

Eh...I agree that Zuck and get fucked. I'd take a job at Meta if it paid me $200k+/year though. LOL
 
Five years ago I went through the whole interview process at bookFace just to be told thanks but no thanks at the end. :dunno

Oh well. Super happy where I am at right now anyway.

When I got laid off at Google there were definitely people on leave who only found out when they tried to return. Not sure if anything came of it aside from an individual settlement here and there.

Algorithmic misogyny, not so much political as sociological, and predictable. Pregnancy is expensive for corps and orgs. It IS more efficient from a profit-making stance to eliminate potentially preggo employees. FB can afford the litigation and their user base will never punish them by boycotting IG or other products. Killing off office of civil rights departments that would shoulder the investigative burden and enforce anti-discrimination statutes is a political fact, not sure if that's what you are avoiding, or asking us to avoid mentioning.
 
I think... folks should vote with their wallets. I don't do IG, FB or Amazon.
If folks want to support those corporations there are consequences, some ugly.
But hey. This is the new reality that is forming.
 
For sure people will complain about Meta and turn around and use it.

i vote with mine. zero for all of those you mentioned. plus others. i doubt they are crying over any lost dollars they might have got from me - more like a squirrel flipping off a semi, but hey, i find it very personally satisfying to tell them to go fuck themselves.
 
The amount of people that will impact change by not using these evilcorps is effectively zero. These people are the ones in the right, doing the right thing, the moral thing, the thing that's ideologically best for the world, and their impact will be zero because realistically there's nowhere near enough of them. If the goal is to get to the correction as soon as possible, we need more evilcorps and more people using them ignorantly. The subsequent catastrophe is what will bring about a more lasting change. Regardless, the effort is respectable and history will be on your side.
