Who here has made the "jump" to all bike-no car?

I have a car but it just sits for the most part, I only use it for grocery shopping or if I need to haul stuff.

I'm using the car a bit more often now that I'm on break since I get kinda lazy and I don't feel like putting on all my gear to go down to the store 1/2 mile down.

I'm trying to sell my car, so if I ever did end up selling it I would be bike only because I don't think that I'd buy another car at least not until several years from now. I would probably buy a standard do it all bike like an sv650 or suzuki bandit since my xr650r isn't very good for freeway riding or long distance riding.
 
Bike only for past year and a half. Having a car in the city isn't worth it. But damn, it's cold out lately.

So how did you get your moto license*? I always thought you had to have a regular car license before you could get an M1 endorsement.

+1 for Zipcar. I haven't had a car in years, so they're very handy on the rare occasion I need to drive. If I had a large topcase, those occasions would be even rarer...

No car since 2001. $ bikes now, live in the Tendernob so Zipcar and tons of rentals nearby for when I need a cage.

HAAATE to drive a car in the City with any kind of traffic.
 
Only bike for 3 years. Unfortunately Ive had to borrow my fiance's car due to my only bike having to be put in the shop. If you are going to do it make sure you have an alternate.
 
I went about a year with only an R6..It got me by but I wouldn't like to do it again... It's a huge pain when you need to grocery shop, or buy anything really that wont fit in a glove box barely big enough for a baseball hat. Plus I couldn't get my dirt bike anywhere unless my friends were going, you also find out (some) girls are not as down to ride everywhere as much as we are.. Infact a lot of them hate the fact that if they want to go anywhere with you either: they're driving, or they're on the back of the bike.
Buy a cheap truck, it's well worth it. Just my .02
 
I'm not anti-cage, but I haven't owned one for a few years (I miss the old Saab 900 turbo, so fun to drive). And along with Zipcar, my live-in gf has a car, so I don't really consider myself truly moto only.

But I don't own one. I personally love it and am rarely inconvenienced by it. I do find that I have a hard time relating to people who only ride their cycles for fun on weekends. You don't need to be 100% moto all the time, but people who only ride "for fun" just seem like spoiled brats with expensive toys. But then again, I can't believe it when I hear people asking for shop recommendations cuz they need to adjust or replace a brake/clutch lever or some other such menial task.

I was bikes-only for 5 years. This winter I'd had enough. Something inside me changed. I guess it was partly from reading about all the deaths on here this past summer. After my friend got nailed on the Bay Bridge (he lived, thank God) that was it. I bought a car and haven't commuted on the motos since, and am seriously considering riding track only from now on.
I love bikes and will always ride, but dammit, I love my car too!

Two bikes and a Jeep Cherokee here.

I've thought about going only bike, but then I'd have a problem since I like to Rock Crawling/Mudding in my Jeep, also transporting firearms and camping gear becomes a problem on my Moto.

Srsly, why would I need a truck? I don't do trackdays, and my bike never breaks down. And if it does, e.g. nail in tire, I can call MTS for a tow then use BART to get around.

How will you tow a 6x12 trailer with a motorcycle? How will you take your 3 dogs to the hiking trails on a motorcycle? How will you haul your dirtbike? You can't carry a couch and loveseat on a bike.

As you can see, trucks are serious business. :p
 
Ah. Well, I don't have a dirtbike, or dogs, or a couch, or a loveseat. :p

For the 1 or 2 days a year when I actually do need a truck, it's a lot cheaper to rent or Zipcar one than to own one.

I thought the point was that because I don't have a truck, I'm not tempted to go out and buy a bunch of stuff I don't need. :teeth
 
i need both.. considering i do a lot of extra-curricular activities.. i just cant carry my equipment on my bike.. and sometimes, when im tired, i'd rather drive than ride just to be safe.. when i have to buy groceries and such, its just a lot more convenient to drive.. but if im just going to work and home, i'd much prefer to ride obviously.. for those of you who have bikes, how do you shop for big boxes? like during christmas time for example, if you buy a present for a kid and its in like a 40x40 box, how do you do it>
