Best Shotgun for Home Defense?

Saiga 12 with 10 round drum ( 20 round drum in a free state ).

I got your free state home defense gun right here.

But for a shotgun- this would be the only thing I would add other than an ammo carrier:

That is good too. Surefire makes an exceptional product. $$$ but worth it. Light positioned below muzzle, pointing pretty much to the impact point. Still, pointing a laser at someones chest may save you you a lot of time and money and prevent sleepless nights after you took someones life. Lased do acts like a deterrent, it's proven in the real life.

1 more vote for the Maverick 88. I picked mine up for $80, threw on a 18.5, side saddle, and stock sleeve. Loaded with 00 and 3 rounds of slugs in the saddle. Needs a light. Besides for the practice, it is going to sit most of the time. Find a reliable gun, get to know and love it, and don't blow a fortune on it.

If you don't heed the above advice, get the Kel-Tec KSG. http://www.keltecweapons.com/news/preview-kel-tec-shotgun-ksg/

As far as I know, no, you can not see it.

So if I get a guide rod internal laser for my G23 (LaserMax, etc.), do I have to align the thing myself, do I have to have a gunsmith install it, or is it considered self aligning on an unmolested Glock?

IR laser is invisible to the naked eye. LaserMax is a red laser, and not a very bright at that. It's user installed and can not be adjusted.
LG-417 is what I have on my G19 and it will fit on your G23.

In the dark house, without light, how do you identify the target?

If I cock my shotgun and yell I have a gun; then somebody starts coming up the stairs without answering, it's pretty safe to assume it isn't my wife coming upstairs to give me a massage. My staircase is lightly illuminated so I can see pretty well when my eyes are adjusted to the dark.

I don't like the idea of shining a light at someones face for 1-2 seconds. That is plenty of time for them to fire off a round and possibly hit me even if I blinded them.

OK. BTW, have you ever had a 100 lumen light in your eyes? Oh, and remember Rule #4 of gun safety? "Know your target and it's surroundings."

I use a mossberg 500 with the 18.5 inch barrel and a pistol grip loaded with 3in magnum birdshot shells. decent patterning lots of pellets going down range. birdshot is just the ticket for home defense! you get a good pattern that cant be duplicated with buckshot and its much less likely to penetrate walls and injure others. that is my main concern but then i use hollow points designed specifically for home defense in my 357 and 45. they all pack plenty of stopping power and If I do ever have to use any of them in my home I dont want bullets exiting my home and injuring innocent parties. many gun experts recomend birdshot for home defense. I used to load 00 but after finding buckshot will pass through walls switched to birdshot. its also easier for the SO to shoot and hit her taget with the bird shot.

Are you gonna shoot to wound?

I dont want to get into it but I have never shot to wound and im probably one of the few civillians on this board who have killed a man lets just leave it at that. Dont take the use of deadly force lightly you dont get a do over dead is dead.
