i can read all types of theories from different views and still none of them are conclusive...

when i see my house get hit by a tsunami , hurricane, tornado , blizzard during the summer while living in the bay area, then maybe there might be a problem with our weather...

otherwise, just like the 9/11 conspiracies, it's all israel's fault...

p.s - methinks the world had similar weather and quake phenomenon in the late 1800s/early 1900s when the industrial revolution was taking place and it was more severe then than now...

I am convinced that climate change is a RISK faced by the world. As with any risk, the consequences of the outcome and costs to mitigate that outcome are just as important as the certainty of the outcome.

I'd say the general "debate" about climate change is more about emotion and dogma than anything remotely scientific. The opponents can always point to a lack of evidence, since the citeria they've inferred is probably impossible to meet.

edit: My opinion is pretty simple, and most is common sense
1) Heat on the earth comes almost entirely from the sun
2) Energy from the sun is either absorbed or reflected back into space
3) We know the atmosphere works to traps some of that heat

Seems the biggest gap in climate change research is accounting for where excess heat goes. That said, the big issue isn't whether or not climate change is happening, or even if we caused it. Policy should be focused on whether or not there are measures we can take that will pay off in mitigating any negative effects.

It's always dubious when anyone claims to have established causality when working with outcomes from a complex system. Exactly why macro econ is such a clusterfuck. Also highly reminiscent of the psuedo-econ talk that happens here on Barf.

Causality is always a hard sell but given that the spike in historical CO2 concentrations coincides more or less directly with the industrial revolution, correlation may be good enough if all we're concerned with are potential consequences. As Ogg mentioned though, this all assumes that CO2 concentrations measured in core samples are accurate and are reflective of the actual global concentrations during those periods. I did learn about sources of error like gas exchange until the gas became trapped and problems with conventional dating methods at one point in time but all I remember is that I was impressed with the use of deuterium as a proxy for age and flow and compression modeling was a little over my head.

In any case, it's fun to look at the many cyclical functions that overlap one another to make the aggregate function which is the actual CO2 level.

Natto is like really filthy, guilt-ridden sex. Once you acquire a taste for it, you'll crave it and go out of your way for it. But after you get it, you want nothing to do with it for a while.

In any case, even if the science is completely whack-job wrong. Given the rate at which our global population is rising, I don't think it's a bad thing for us to think about more ways we could reduce the impact we have on this planet. When potentially catastrophic consequences are involved, type I errors are always preferable to type II errors--better safe than sorry.

I agree that we should continue research and learn more about what is going on, and certainly a policy of sustainable use of natural resources is a good one, but I hate the green weenie agenda that is based on a crackpot philosophy (that nature is somehow sacred and should not be unnecessarily disturbed) rather than good science. I'm more likely to act in favor of mass genocide of useless nations in the world and mandatory sterilization of the low IQ humans than to embrace an all Electric/Bicycle Only society that only uses eco-friendly super green products.
