SEX and VIOLENCE!

Just my :2cents on the sex vs violence.

We, as Americans are MUCH more tolerant of violence versus sex than say, Canada, Europe, etc. In those countries its the opposite. Their culture is against the display of violence, but the display of a naked man or woman, whether in or out of the act of sex is acceptable. Firearms for example are more difficult to get in Europe and Canada, versus the states, where as long as you aren't a convicted felon and have no history of mental illness can get a gun. If anything I feel this is more of a cultural problem than just a problem with BARF TOS. In order to implement cultural change, policy needs to be changed, which is how all of our societies have been for eons and eons. Yes, its had failures, but its also had some successes, we're one of the few countries with the same constitution for more than 100 years.

Granted, yes, this is a US based group with US based culture focus. I've read this entire thread and feel like the mods don't want to push for a more clearly defined set of TOS regarding violence vs sex or are in disagreement for change. I recognize there are probably a number of reasons you guys have on this, but something needs to change. We as humans are ever evolving. Yes, I'm a younger member, but I also know the history through friends regarding shit that has happened over the years. I also get that this is Budman's sandbox, but I sometimes feel like if he wants to move to a PG-13 rating, maybe its time for NSFW content to not be here. There's nothing stopping a younger member from clicking NSFW content within BARF or to link of something outside of BARF.

Food for thought also, maybe we should start adding a warning of Gorey content or Violent content in the titles for things as extreme as the beheading thread. I've only heard about the thread from others, but I'm glad I was warned about it from others so I would not click it. I'm sure this has been suggested, but I think this would at least be a start for a longer term change.

Edit: I meant not clicking the thread or trolling the thread in my last paragraph

My two cents:

I have more problem with violence for the sake of violence then I do with vid's that are showing the real world. In the modern world of journalism, newspapers are dead and media is a joke. But the average person with a cell phone can be more of a journalist then the journalist anymore. Giving the world the chance to see the "news" happen for themselves and make their own judgements.

So a vid that just shows people being killed senselessly for a movie, is something I would rather not watch more then a truthful video of the world.

And to be honest, I had more of a problem seeing vid's and pictures of Dan Wheldon going into the wall the I did of some meeheecan getting attacked with a chainsaw.

Same with sex. A vid about something that might be sexual but the point of the vid/pic isn't the sex itself shouldn't be considered porn versus a vid that shows sex for the sake of sex.

But in the end, if they are linked, why does it matter, no one forced someone to click the link. As long as it's marked properly and if it's NSFW... and I would ask that if there is bad 80's music, please warn me as well so I can turn down the speakers first.

BARF is starting to remind me of High School.....so much drama. So boring!!!!!! I'm too old for this shit!

You're just now finding that out? :laughing

I was unaware that software had been perfected that can read a post and determine that the OP was name calling. Oh and I'm sure that it can determine when the people are friends making a joke too. Then there is the sarcasm, that was the easiest portion to develop. It weeds that out too right?

Yes. It's wetware, called the human brain.

:twofinger

Oh wow! The SW you're describing sounds like every dictators wet dream!!! So is that the level that BARF Mods. have to police the posts at??? I'm so sorry, what a horrible job!!!! I honestly had no idea!! I thought it was a much more........well, moderate job (if you'll pardon the pun.)

I understand that mods are volunteers, but do you guys get at least some kind of thank you for this level of labor? If not, I would like to start something. A beer fund? Donations? A Mod Thank You Party?

Seriously, a Mod Thank You Party would be great!!! Do you have one now??? Am I just reinventing the wheel? Please let me know, because if there isn't one now, there should be!!! Every volunteer driven organization throws a volunteer party, and so should BARF!!! If nobody wants to deal with it, I would be thrilled to organize one!!!

Please let me know!!!!! :party

I know, right?! :nerd :laughing

Thanks! I needed that!! :rofl

I was looking at the news the other day, and you know what I found? On major news websites, chock full of advertising and whatnot, with massive mainstream audiences of all ages, there are all sorts of pages where ONE click on a link takes you to a page where a video starts playing-- of, say, some dying dude drenched in blood getting dragged around in the street by an angry mob.

They just put next to the link stuff like "WARNING: graphic content" and everybody just seems to get on with their day. Sites are still up, world hasn't ended.

Just sayin.

Are you trying to bring facts to BARF!? :rofl

That's funny. I thought Gnarly Cranium was making a statement regarding the accepted proliferation of violence in the mainstream.

I read it the same way. Odd the OP would be in support of violence on Barf or anywhere else.

I was just talking about NSFW content and how many clicks it takes to get there period. I guess sex doesn't come up on news sites very often, so violence happened to be the example in question. I wasn't differentiating, just counting clicks.

This was the part I was underscoring as facts... Plenty of internet folks do just fine with a link warning, they don't need to be coddled and/or condescended to.

I find it funny that you attempt to strengthen your position with 'facts', but hypothesize theories to weaken the Moderators position on Lyliths suspension.

It is my opinion that your attempt at making it look like the suspension was personal (for challenging the Mods) is an attempt to 'win' by changing the actual discussion. It is rather silly and transparent.
