And as a former sprinter, I have to tell the truth: the warmup dance is nothing other than psychological intimidation to the other sprinters. She is doing absolutely nothing for herself, physiologically-speaking, outside of the slight leg shake she does at the end of the dance, which actually helps you *mentally* relax your quads, hammies, and possibly glutes. I.e., ATTA GIRL! GO GET 'EM!

Being an ex-sprinter, aside from spikes, what cleats are better to sprint in. I think I'm using some Adidas baseball cleats non-metal. I was thinking soccer cleats. I'm light-ish...5'6 150-160lbs and do run on my toes when sprinting.

Personally, not having done any sprinting since 1973, it would depend on the surface. Gravel, long spikes; asphalt, flats; rubberized surface, pin spikes. :thumbup

Just watch out for the guys boxing you in, learn to lengthen your back-kick to smack their shins and get you un-boxed. :thumbup

You get yourself in a positive mental state by psyching out your opponents and smelling the fear from their every pore. Sorry to burst your bubble, but giggly thoughts of unicorns, bubblegum, and rainbows do not make you a bad mutherf*cker. Making your opponents shit themselves before the event begins, does. And this young lady has done it by making it look like she is thinking about unicorns, bubblegum, and rainbows. But she's not; And the other sprinters know it. Ergo, she is an even badder mutherf*cker.

@Dubbington: soccer (FOOTBALL) cleats with molded soles (non-replaceable studs) will pretty much get you through every type of sprint (assuming you'll be running in the forgiving soil of the Bay Area) you will need to do, unless you are on asphalt or the track.

Should you be running on those surfaces as well as grass/gravel/dirt I would recommend a very light trail running shoe from either New Balance, Puma, or Merrell depending on your type of feet and also how "naked" you want your shoe to be. As the ground is as hard as hell down here, I run hills (dirt/gravel) in Puma Faas Series (500, 550) and then hit the rubber track with Nike spikes every week for a few hours of sprint circuits. If the ground is even slightly soggy I run in football (soccer) cleats by Puma. It's all about horizontal power transfer for sprinting. That's why it's all about the glutes. Hamstrings come in second. Quads mean next to nothing outside of extending your leg for the next step (all in the air).

Per standard sprinter-phenotype my feet are narrow, low-volume, and have pretty high arches. Puma shoes are perfect for this foot-type.
