Night Stick - Legal?

I used to have my great-uncle's blackjack from when he was a Deputy Sheriff in Philly in the late 20's. I lost it. :( That thing had some wear marks and history behind it.

I wish I had some piece of my great grandfather's service gear. It would be very special and any laws to the contrary be damned. I'd especially like to have his gun and badge but alas, they're long gone. (See my avatar.) He was sheriff of Escondido, CA and before he came out to California, he was police chief of Gettysburg, PA. He actually heard Lincoln give his Gettysburg Address and used to recite it every year at the Escondido 4th of July town party.

That's totally cool. I enjoy hearing about history. :thumbup

I thought those metal retracting batons were illegal. My cousins a CHP, saw me with a 1960s CARVED WOOD POLICE BATONS, told me to not take it out of the house.

Next time tell your cousin "Yeah but you can't look up the penal code and th sheriff doesn't care, so what does it matter?" Lol!!!!

So my grandfather was a Sheriff back in the 40,50 he left me his service billy club after he passed away so it's actually illegal for me to own that? And if so what am I supposed to do with it then:nchantr

Got any family out of state?

If not, I'll take it...

;)

1) Mount it on a display plaque so it can't be removed and used.
2) Put it in Lucite for display so it can't be used.
3) Donate it to a police museum.
4) Move to a state where possession is legal.
5) Use it as kindling.
6) Donate it to me. :)

Hey man, I already called dibs! LOL ;)

Gotta love the logic of weapons-posession laws.

I have a broom. Perfectly legal.

If I were to cut the handle in half and wrap some grip tape around one end, I have now committed a felony. Nice. :|

So what about rattan Kali practice sticks? Are those a problem? 1" diameter x 28" long, very light weight. Would it be like bats or Billy clubs?

When was the last time a shuriken was used in a violent crime? It goes to show you that Ninjas are so well disciplined, they obey all laws.

There is no difference between a rattan Escrima sticks than a real one. They are the same. If you want the practice version they the padded, plastic version.

Carrying a loaded concealed firearm is a misdemeanor but possession of a billy club is a felony. :nchantr

The media and PIO's always mention weapons that, "was fully loaded". Is that a penalty enhancement or another strike or what? What's the difference penalty-wise between one bullet and a mag that's chock full? :teeth

As a matter of fact, I hooked up a guy who had a shuriken a couple days ago. :twofinger

The law does not differentiate between the number of rounds. It's either loaded or unloaded.

I'm not sure I understand your question, but here is the definition of loaded from the penal code:

16840(b)(1) A firearm shall be deemed to be "loaded" when there is an unexpended cartridge or shell, consisting of a case that holds a charge of powder and a bullet or shot, in, or attached in any manner to, the firearm, including, but not limited to, in the firing chamber, magazine, or clip thereof attached to the firearm.
