Hwy 1 closed Dec '22

I know I will give it a go, but no plans to be immediately on the 1 when it opens.

Good to see they are making sure to keep there onsite teams safe.

I wonder how many of those cat skinners have taken a ride along with a small slide, working those hillsides ?
I wonder how much $$ has Ca. spent on Hwy 1, from its conception, to now ??

Well NO HWY 1 for you until 2025... hopefully they can get it fixed and storms don't make it worse.

Sure do appreciate the boys and girls in orange working it.

At this pace it better be bombproof when they are done with it or it might be time to find a new way to Big Sur

Riding from Santa Barbara to the Southernmost closure around Lucia and back is a pretty nice day ride. There's gas and food at Gorda and Ragged Point. At Gorda they seemed reasonably happy to sell me a few gallons of the most expensive gas I've ever purchased and some lunch. In hindsight, a tuna melt at a nearly empty restaurant miles and miles down a closed road may not have represented the most thoughtful lunch tactics. Still, an unfettered ride up the coast is a pretty good day.

Damn... 9:50 a gallon. :wow

Looks like you caught it on a good day... We had major fog.

It ain't about getting there... it is about the glory of riding 1 for me.
It has been a go to two day ride to Cayucos for years and I miss it. Sure you can get there, but it is not the same as asphalt sailing on the edge of the continent.

I remember paying $4. a gallon way back in mid 70's when I needed a dribble to get to Cambria
That pump is photoed a lot.

That road will forever keep sliding, Look at what they did to the Devils Slide, all those $$$.

One day, the mini will ride, , ,

I concur, but that section sure seems like it's a sisyphean task to repair, maybe a cool bridge to bypass the area that slides is in order.

Or a reroute for a bit. Not sure that is even possible.

HWY 1 takes no prisoners for sure.

With a 0.501$ price increase; that pump will read 0 zero per gallon.
… reprogram the pump/start selling it by the half gallon for $5

They would do it in Italy. Besides bridges and tunnels, avalanche galleries are pretty cool too. Our state GDP exceeds theirs btw.

The closure is putting a hurt on local biz

Wonder if they can survive another 6 or more months.??

For the locals, I imagine some are happy with the closure, some have extra stress, working with the closure,
If the tourist industry is suffering from a lack of tourists, make access way more expensive, for that exclusive access, Helicopter Touring.
Duvall sayz, "Charlie don't surf." Wine tours will save us, , ,
