The Electric Motorcycle Thread

Oh yeah with the SRF and Strike coming out don't forget california has clean air rebates on electric vehicles. I got $900 for my Empulse and there is a federal tax credit also saved my ass when when taxes rolled around :)

...

Year models here:
https://cleanvehiclerebate.org/eng/eligible-vehicles

That link is interesting; I didn't realize CA gives the highest rebates to the (Four!) hydrogen fuel cell cage models.

I'm not sure I want high pressure hydrogen a foot from my groin, or even two or three feet away for that matter, but I wonder if we'll see hydrogen powered or hydrogen fuel cell powered bikes or hybrids in the next 10 years. Exciting times!

Maybe hydrogen is just as safe as gasoline, I mean you got highly flammable liquid between your legs what could go wrong?

I think Honda has a patent on a hydrogen fuelcell motorcycle design. I posted it a while ago. I think it only be good if hydrogen became a "thing".

Not to mention the flammable and explosive Li-ion batteries I've got between my legs.

Who would have thought containing a large amount of potential energy could be hazardous.

I think it's more the idea of flammable hydrogen under ultra *high pressure* that bothers me. But ya, I suppose gas is plenty dangerous too. We've probably all seen racebikes erupt into flames while going down the track in MotoGP, etc.

I knew lithium ion batteries of many types go up in flames all the time, but do those fires start as explosions?

Come on Science! Where are the dilithium crystals? Flux capacitors? Mr. Fusion?!

Science is a fickle mistress.

Sometimes the Li-ion batteries explode, sometimes they smolder and burn. depends on the design and failure.

I rode the Lightning Strike yesterday. Nice bike.

Since we're bumping this thread Refuel TT 11 is comin!

If you have an electric motorcycle or car and want to do an all electric track day the 11th Refuel TT is on June 30, 2019.

At the end of the day there will be a Time Trial event if you register for it you can battle for the fastest time around Laguna Seca on a zero emissions motorcycle. 3 motorcycles classes: Modified, Production, and Prototype.

You can bet there will be LOTS of Zeroes out there and probably the new SRF because Zero will be probably be attending!

They're going to have a parade lap this year too, maybe I'll take the Sur Ron out on the track :)

Why you being such a tease? can you not tell us more other than " i rode it" here a cute pic of me

Looks like a baby LS-218 are they gonna run it during at Refuel TT? I'd like to see it go up against the Energica. I suppose they would have to actually produce and sell the bike by then. I guess there is the prototype class.

Uh... I am at a loss for words right now.

Edit: ok, I could have ridden the LS218 too, but really to evaluate a bike you need the time, the gear and the track. It was not the best time. Later, me hopes.

did the brakes function? did anything feel weird or out of place? how was the power delivery? did it feel heavy? did the bike jerk you off while you rode? was there any thing you didn't like about it? or was it all sunshine and rainbows?
