There were a ton of cool old bikes, and this was one of them ...

pAll very Young by San Francisco Motorcycle Club, on Flickr

So, the SFMC is basically what is called an AMA Sweater Club ...
Back in the day, before the 1940s, motorcycle clubs were named
after whatever town they were located in, and wore wool sweaters
in the races and other competitions and events that were put on ...

The folks in this photo are the Young family, four generations of whom
have been SFMC members. Bob Young's parents were both in the
club, and that's second generation member Bob with his son Matt and
Matt's children, who are SFMC mascots and represent the fourth generation
of the Young family to be involved in the club. I think the youngest boy is Shane,
and he is wearing the 70 year-old sweater that Bob wore when
Bob was a club mascot ...

The pics in this post are a bunch of excellent photos taken by John Myers:
http://www.johnmyersphotos.com/Motor...C-110/n-RcCKK/

All credit to John, he captured some wonderful images, and I've posted a link to his website, above, definatley worth checking out ...

This is SFMC Honorary Member Indian Rick on his WWII era Indian ...

SFMC member Purple Barry who is the head honcho at the DNA Lounge and helped us secure that space ... he is on his 1970 Yamaha R5 that he rides on multi-day, mega mile vintage rides like the Nor Cal TT and Moto Melee ...

SFMC Life Member Red Fred's old pick up truck ... another John Myers photo ...

I guess it is a Ford, but we won't hold that against Red Fred ...
You can't get to Heaven in a Chevy or a Ford ...

This is Red Fred's Indian 4 ... He was invited to ride this bike across the Golden Gate Bridge when the bridge had its last anniversary party, to commemorate SFMC member Hap Jones' ride across the GG Bridge when it first opened ... Hap pushed his Indian through the crowd when the bridge opened in 1937, becoming the first person to cross the bridge on a motor vehicle ...

And Red Fred, sporting his SFMC sweater ...

Rob D's bad-a** Ducati ... also a multiple time Moto Melee finisher ...

SFMC member Francis on his XR 1200, that he can wheelie for a block! I like to say that
the most important SFMC member is our newest member, and Francis is a great example
of that fundamental principle ... he was a great help to Kalle, our "House Committee" who
worked so hard this year making the clubhouse look great ....

Thanks to John Myers for taking these wonderful pics of our 110th Anniversary celebration, and thanks to all the BARFers and other San Francisco motorcycle people who came to our party, and to the Yonkers, Pasadena, Oakland and other sweater clubs that also attended ...

See you at our 115th Anniversary Party, or at the Dirt Bag Challenge ...

And, of course, if you like motorcycles and live in or near San Francisco, the SFMC is your
motorcycle club ...

see you around the campfire,

I was just explaining in another thread that riders did care about their image back in the early days of motorcycling... and actually in a big way. I used SFMC as a reference. All those wonderful pics of men and woman dressed to the 9's going out for a ride.

I am glad all went well for you guys.

Congrats on about 100 more years of history.. than we have.
Hey Budman,

BARF will always be the #1 AMA on-line MC! AMA O/MC #0001
(love reading the BARF threads about MC clubs ... I'm always like
"Hey ... BARF is motorcycle club, too!" )

Cary and I hope to make a few of the BARF rides in 2015, like
the Quincy or Hawthorne Run ... Or a Stonyford Dirt Ride ...

I'll be the guy wearing a shirt and tie ...

see you soon,

Good times indeed. A few of us split off for a couple of impromptu stops and enjoyed playing catch up - O.G. "City Tour" style. Found myself in a couple of those pics but sorry that I never found you, John! Maybe one Thursday soon...

Cheers~

I saw the red bike and told the owner that it was gorgeous.

I met the guy with the Duc at Coyote Coffee (AWESOME BARF SPONSOR!). He's very nice and his bike is awesome. The sexy DL650 next to the Duc is mine.

Hey TJ!

Super sorry I missed a chance to catch up with you ... I'll have to go
back through the pics and see if I can spot you ...
Would have been fun to try to keep up on the O.G. "City Tour" ...

OK, here's one last pic, taken by my friend Ryan, that I think
captures the spirit of of my motorcycling experience, anyway, here in
San Francisco, with BARF and ADV and the DBC and the SFMC ...

That's our Road Captain, Ben, on his bumblebee FZ1 on the left, the gal with the
pink goggles is on a California Giro vintage bike, and Brian is on his DR-Z ... covering
all the motorcycle bases ...

Here's a link to Ryan's blog with pics from the110th:

see you around the corner,

Now that's Bitchen.
Even more interesting is how the truck and bike blend with the same colors as the CycleGear sign in the background.

Flood damage repairs ...

IMG_3157
by San Francisco Motorcycle Club, on Flickr

We got slammed by the by the December 2014 storms that caused
flooding along Folsom Street in the inner Mission ...

The city has been working with us and with the other businesses
along the 1200 block of Folsom to help repair damage to
buildings in that area ...

Here is a pic of the clubhouse stripped of the nice hardwood floor we
installed when we converted the old blacksmith shop into
a club house ...

IMG_3158
by San Francisco Motorcycle Club, on Flickr

We found some evidence of the previous owner's business down in the foundation ...

IMG_2890

... and a couple of pics of what the place looked like in 1947,
when we purchased it ...

see you 'round the corner,

Damn, I didn't know SFMC got flooded. Is it just the floor that got damaged?
I'm completely out of touch with everything in SF since moving to Petaluma.
Not that I don't like it here..
