US kids speaking like Brits

I watched a lot of Monty Python as kid but this probably makes it far worse.

Children in the U.S. have picked up British accents during the pandemic, parents say, because of how characters on the animated British preschool show “Peppa Pig” speak.

That could have been last night's Colbert show. Picking up a toothless Brit's accent would likely be an improvement for most US kids nowadays.

Worked in Albuquerque with some southern folks speaking their twang so naturally I would mimic them daily. Got to the point a new dude on the job though I was a southerner also.
I got a bad habit of picking up parts of dialects.

Yeah, this is a natural human language phenomenon. That's why there are regional accents to begin with. People have this, maybe subconscious, need to mimic those around them.

I was a military brat. Picked up accents from other kids, dialects from living off base, idioms from father's friends and slang from popular music.

It can be a curse. I say things other people think are odd, weird or inappropriate.

Kids mimicking whats on the tube? meh

I was in Ireland a couple of years ago and struck up a conversation in Spanish with some Spaniards. They were confused and wanted to know why I sounded Mexican.

Because Mexico is where I learned Spanish, I’m from California, not Europe.

I sometimes forget about that.

I have a co-worker who grew up in Montreal and when he speaks to his counterparts in Paris in French they hate the way he sounds.

Don't people from Paris hate everyone that isn't from Paris?

Funny you say that. Last night my gf said that French people are like that. Arrogant. She has traveled over there and all over.

I’d rather be American than French.
