One Night In Miami

Anybody looking for some interesting MLK weekend viewing, I strongly recommend it. I really enjoyed the film, which is an adaptation of a play that fictionalized the unrecorded dialogue between 4 friends who gather and discuss their roles as leaders in the emerging Civil Rights struggle of the 1960's.

The dialogue was well designed and the acting was excellent. Currently playing on Prime.

Definitely on the list, thanks for the review.

Every once in while I need to hear Sam Cooke's voice and will pull out the Greatest Hits and listen. Nothing better than "A Change is Gonna Come".

Sam Cooke died way before my time, so I am largely unfamiliar with his body of work and he was the character I am least familiar with in the film, but that song does play a role in the film, even if they fudged the timing of the release a bit for dramatic effect.

His final words: "Lady, you shot me..."

My mom used to listen to him with her gal pals and their wine, along with the Beatles, the Camelot movie soundtrack, and a few choice others.

We just knew dinner was gonna be late....

I have the same memories pf my Aunts all getting together on Holidays. As the evenings progressed, all of the "old Music" would be put on the hi-fi and the drinks would be flowing,,,, oh my god that was hilarious. These were Women who ranged in age from 45 to 70, a very straight laced group. The later it got- the more the "straight laced" became BENT. The language got colorful and the stories- that were supposed to be private- were aired.

Once in a while when I hear an Aretha Franklin or Ray Charles song, or something from that period- it will hit me sooo hard in the gut. I'm 10 years old, and transported back to my Aunt's living room, and my tears start flowing.

Thanks OP- I will look it up.

I honestly thought it was recommendations of what to do if spending a single night in Miami, a town I genuinely love to visit and everyone I know seems to hate.

This looks like a cool film and I look forward to checking it out.

That is one of the only major U.S. cities I have never been to, but I really want to check out. One of my dreams has always been to buy a boat, work there as a blood spatter expert with the local PD, fine tune some of my hobbies, you know, lead the good life.

I think you'll dig it, of course Jim Brown is just the best dude in the picture. I love how much his portrayal in this film represents how others like Richard Pryor have described their friendship with him.

Maybe you got to visit Vegas before I ever did, but once I did it just seemed like a limitless stretch of malls that sold booze.

Miami is still the gritty that we were sold as kids. It's sweaty, it's sexy, it's nasty. It's amazing beaches and drug deals going down via cellphone in a McD's queue.
