"The doses shipped*, that means we've got a FedEx tracking number and it's left the facility," Ehresmann said.

*4-6 weeks delivery.

Not trying to be political, this is relevant.

Biden inheriting nonexistent coronavirus vaccine distribution plan and must start 'from scratch,' sources say

Good news.

(CNN)Two-thirds of Americans (66%) say they will try to get vaccinated now that multiple Covid-19 vaccines are approved and beginning to be made available to the public, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS.

That's up from about half in October (51%), before any vaccines had been approved for use.

The idea that a centrally controlled organization should be created to distribute the vaccine is insane. But then, sanity left the building about 8 months ago.

States, counties, and cities across the US have health departments with a great deal of experience delivering vaccines. Giving supplies of the vaccine to states and letting them funnel it into existing infrastructure makes vastly more sense than trying to control it from DC.

From the New York Times yesterday:
The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said about 14.3 million people have received at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, and that about 2.2 million people had been fully vaccinated. That is far short of the goal federal officials set to give at least 20 million people their first shots before the end of 2020.

The federal government said Wednesday that it had delivered about 36 million doses to states, territories and federal agencies. The shipments, which came after a record-setting race to develop, study and approve a vaccine, have marked a turning point in the pandemic at a time when deaths and cases continue to set records.

But federal health officials recently acknowledged that the vaccine rollout had had a slower-than-expected start and said they did not have a clear understanding as to why only a portion of the doses shipped across the nation had made it into arms.
Here's the graphic published with that story:

Some states are doing very well. The fact that California is not is probably due to inept government distribution, which would be even worse with an extra administrative layer over it.

You have no idea of my motivation. I do know that you wouldn't have posted it, for the very reason you attributed to me.

It is a very real factor in the vaccine distribution, if true, and I don't see why they would be saying it was if it wasn't.

The existing infrastructure you are talking about does not exist any longer. The current infrastructure is a small web of large conglomerate private companies that have an outstretched hand looking to profit at every touchpoint.

Hell, hospitals and health care systems have only just started consolidating their supply chains to limit spend and waste.

So what I think you are seeing, especially in the smaller states with high vaccination rates, is less hands in the cookie jar making it far more streamlined. Also, I think smaller patient population and physician load leads to a more streamlined administration. Hospitals get the benefit of system scale without the pain point of patient:Physician ratios

The take-away here is that you posted something that had a political connection and Dan challenged you on it. There isn't a question about the link's "truthiness" or its relevancy. We're in a public health crisis, and I think we all realize that one can't divorce the impact of politics on the pandemic here in the U.S. However, many on this board have stated that they grew weary quickly of the constant political interjections in threads, and thus the Polisink was born.

You and many of your Polisink cohorts have been busted for attempts at posting political content where it shouldn't be. So instead of demanding that we absorb what YOU think is germane and important to the conversation, perhaps turn it around next time and consider what others might want to read when it comes to a certain topic. You didn't need to post that link here. You could have titled the link differently at the least. You made zero effort to de-politicize it, and --to no one's surprise-- someone called you on it.

The mods are trying to determine how to best handle the political aspects of the pandemic discussion. It's a bit tough to unravel. In the meanwhile, use some common sense in the matter--think about others a little. When in doubt, put it in Politics.

Never really thought about that way myself... AND it's something great to consider off the boards as well.

I found myself in a pickle today as I was describing the vaccine availability "conundrum" to a new hire without taking into account his political view.

Stepped right in dog shit, that's for certain

Fair enough. I'll back off on information that might be taken wrong.
