Mike "Too Tall" Bell - RIP

And the hits keep coming
Another giant of MX has taken his leave.
Mike Bell, a Yamaha rider his entire professional career, passed away yesterday of a possible heart attack while mountain biking. RIP, Mr. Bell...

"My first Superbowl of MX: “It was in 1974 at the High School MX exhibition race. Back then a lot of high schools had MX teams and we had to race a qualifier to get in. Marty Smith was a senior and already a factory rider so he was all everyone thought about. I got the holeshot and all I could think about was “when will Marty pass me?” He finally did with two laps to go. That was probably my greatest second place finish ever!”

Well that sucks. Mike was THE guy when I first started getting into motorcycles. Sad to hear.

Too Tall

Loved watching him use his height to blast the whoops.

Condolences to family, friends and fellow fans.

I have a few friends that were on their high school MX teams. They were pretty much the baddest of the badasses on campus

Too young to go. Godspeed Mike Bell.

Mike Bell came onto the pro scene at the very age I became aware of dirtbikes and reading every magazine I could get my fingers on as a kid in elementary school. I was also a Yamaha kid with my GT80, so Mike Bell was one of my heros alongside Hannah, Glover, and Burgett.

Mike is in the AMA HOF

Reading his HOF reminded me I was at the Superbowl of MX when he won it. Faint memories of he and Hannah came back through the fog of old age.
