yeah, red ring of death. microsoft fixed it once, about a year or so ago. it started acting up last october, and got worse over the course of a month.
sent it to one of my friends' friend. guy seemed like he knew what he was doing. he purchased the same machine thingie (stop me if i get too technical) that ms uses to fix 'em, and it was unfixable.
i don't want to buy a used one, since so many got banned.
i'll pick up a new jasper series soon, i'm kinda draggin my feet til i move. i'll get a new xbox and a nice over-sized lcd to waste a few months.

Yea that's the only thing about these consoles, they often end up breaking sooner or later. I got a refurbished one online about two years ago, and got another RROD. Had some guy replace the heat sinks and it's been working fine since, I'm sure it'll be a matter of time before I'll have to pay another visit. Damn you Microsoft!

the new jasper series is supposedly better. a faster board, that doesn't use as much power. that and a better (more efficient) cooling fan.
also, i've heard a few different reasons for the failures.
first is that ms used standoffs that were a cunt-hair too long, so the board flexed. when playing for a long time with poor circulation, the solder grew brittle, and the flexing caused the solder to "run", losing contact.
a similar theme posits that ms tried to use an environmentally safe solder, and was unaware it had a slightly higher 'melt', or 'set' point, and the solder never really set.
either way, the new jasper series is said to have addressed all these issues, so i'll get a brand new toy soon.

I'm selling a 20g xbox with a controller and a few games for $150. It's a few years old but isn't banned and works fine.

That's a tough one. What is a fair return time? Doesn't help me pay bills if I have to hang onto the $ for 3 months...

They are known as failures and I forgot that they are only $200 now. Maybe I'll donate it to a church or something, I'd hate for it to die on someone and cause problems.

thats the thing. you got any little relatives? a niece or nephew? most kids have two or three consoles nowadays, maybe a neighbor kid or something?
and i wouldn't expect you to hold the cash forever, but it sounds like you know where i'm coming from.
the arcade versions are 2 bills, with a couple games and some other add-on crap to get them to move off the shelves.

Try Craigslist or eBay, that way if it does croak for some reason, you won't feel guilty about it. $150 sounds like a reasonable price since you're including games as well.

i stated that i'd find a 40-42" with all the goodies for less than 550, and i'm very close. i saw a 42" with fast refresh, good contrast, and 1080p for 599, free shipping.
