Last call

Just requested a quote on a ‘21 KTM 500.

Since I am 40lbs less than two years ago and feeling good I am thinking one last dirt bike so I can ride with Butch and visit y’all at Stonybarf.

Don’t tell the wife.

Congrats Budman!
Tickling your dirty roots, eh.

Also curious why not the 300XC-W TPI 2 stroke. Reports are that this will be the LAST year to purchase a 2 stroke for use in CA. That will probably make them a little harder to find/purchase now and easy resell when you are done.

I'll give you a quote: Bend over and grab your ankles.

Dirt bikes are expensive right now due to limited supply and high demand. And of course KTM's are even more expensive because ??? I bet they'll want 12k$ out the door. No thank you.

Good choice! 400 hours and 10000 plus miles on my 2017, it was $$$ to buy and more $$$ to setup, but it is a very versatile and useful bike. These days it really pays to have a street legal dirt bike, which you can ride anywhere. First gear singletrack to 100mph in the open desert. You can putt around slow or you can let er rip. I have a spare set of wheels, some different gearing, a bigger tank, and couple of seats to adjust for different conditions.

You've got excellent taste, that's for sure. I would love a swig of the orange kool-aid myself, just too cheap to make the leap to date.

Hey bud

I'm sure you've done your homework, but off the showroom floor an excf or husky fe-s (both the street legal models) of any size 250, 350, 450 or 500/501 needs $$$$ thrown at it right away to be a proper dirtbike... Bike is very corked up for emissions and street legal DOT duties

- remove reed from intake (free)
- remove screen from muffler or get aftermarket pipe
- add JD powersurge 6x tuner or vortex ecu to fix fueling
- gearing change for dirt (cheapest is just a -1 front sprocket, keep stock chain)
- real knobbies
- protection: skid plate, bark busters, pipe guard,
shark fin
- if over 175#, respring f&r

Sucks, but with all the compromises they have to make to meet smog and dot, it takes some coin to get it back to what it should be, then you have the perfect machine.

Have fun, if you ever want to explore from Truckee, tahoe city and rubicon on 90% dirt and singletrack pm me. Caveat, we have to wait till summer or fall till all the snow melts.

Don't forget the Evap garbage on there. (extra fun getting that can out of the downtube, on the bright side you can now stuff a coolant overflow tank in there)

Smog stuff removal is not necessary for performance restoration, except to block off the SAS to stop decel popping. Evap system is just stuff in the way.
But yes, i take it all off anyway too 😁

Sold out from what I learned. I would really love a two smoke, but feel this bike that Peter raves about below is a good choice.

Actually not enough homework... but the expectations are similar to my Husky 510 after thinking it felt like a 125 riding it home

Yeah I know... I have save a ton of money being SIP. My normal bar bill for a year saved me 3K alone.

Quote was 13K plus OTD.

Going to look on Saturday. I think the 6 days version adds some necessary parts and of course to the price tag.

Don't congratulate me yet Chris.

When I post a pic then that would be the right time. I still have some work to make sure I get exactly the right last call.

Kid gets married next Saturday so the Mrs will be in heaven. Good day to tell her I am getting a new bike.
