PUSSIES, any buddy that thinks it's bad, NEVER rode it in the 80's.
Track is the reason AMA had/has LOTS of AFM riders, taught ya skills. |

Personally, I would pay one-off high entry fees to include Sears Point on the season schedule. It's the one place fat-me can ride in front of a gaggle of eager youngsters (and Berto) for a few laps...4 lap races too please, thank you.

Could be neat to have a special event there, separate from the afm championship. Like the Daytona 200 except not so long.

Seems like Covid would have been the perfect time to do it- Dow stocks at 32k and the track is empty. And any rich guys out there , buy Reno-Fernley while you are at it.;p

Does anyone remember when Bob Bonderant had a successful campaign that was called "Pave the Point."? Bob got a lot of contributions to repave the track.
As for the safety issue. I always thought Sonoma was a safer track than the other higher speed tracks they used to ride at. I am talking about Willow Springs, Laguna before the addition, Riverside, Big O. I saw a lot of crashes at those. |

This always puts a stunned look on the face of the majority of the current membership.
When I started there was no such thing as a track day, or practice days (IIRC), no tire warmers, no airfence, no chicane in one and so on. One got their license on a Saturday and on Sunday one lined up at the back of a 65 bike field of 600s (if you survived the waiting list). No track experience, no clue. You couldn't even see the flag man from back there. To top it all off, you pretty much were guaranteed to see 200 lb++ Scott Grey rip past you on a tiny Honda with pizza cutter wheels by lap three. NOTHING like being thrown in at the deep end. Nothing. Last edited by RacerRob; 03-22-2021 at 05:01 PM.. |
