I have a question, how long does your dash stay on when you remove your key?

Mine is staying on for about a minute. Like it is tied to a canbus system (my headlights on BMW did this after they were modified).

Ok. I sacked up and sat on the bike yesterday. It is the most attention I’ve given to the bike since I got it.

Wow. It feels really comfortable and seems like it will be fun to ride!!

Unfortunately, I was not able to bend my knee enough yet for it to rest on the peg.

Soon! To be honest, this is why I haven’t really given the bike any attention or even a wipe down I can’t ride the damn thing yet!

the gauge staying on was a thing on my 04 625SMC as well, so I guess it's a KTM thing

My 07 690sm doesn't do that.

I have an 2018.

I've been riding supermotos for 13 years now. I have always had supermoto in my garage. It's probably the best all-around sumo i've ever owned, only second to my 2008 SM510R. A huge upgrade to the 690 SMC bikes - which i've had 3.

I remember when it was first announced in 2014, I put my name down, but was unable to get one of the first batches in 2016. Glad I waited, the new motor is killer - a complete animal. The only other more wild supermoto i've owned was my SXV550.

I have ridden and FS570 and almost bought one about a decade ago when they were easily found. I kinda wish I did buy it.

The FS570 is just like the SMR bikes - very racy and light. I didn't really notice anything different having the piston angled the way it is, but the bike is very small/light. Reminds me of my SM510R

What makes the 701 great to me.

- No compromise - revs fast, and racy, but yet very long service intervals.
- 75 hp on a thumper?!
- At all speeds, especially highway speeds (80-95) there is practically no vibration. Feels smoother than my 1290 Super Adventure R. I would never guess this was a thumper.
- Stock suspenders have decent valving. Very good out of the box. Compliant, not stiff.
- Even at 320 lbs, the bike wears it's weight well. At speed, it's just as nimble as my SMR.
- Seat is surprisingly comfortable. I use a Seat Concepts seat as well, and swap between both.
- Perfect out of box fueling.
- incredible fuel range. 130 ~ miles before gas light came on. If you ride a racy tard, you'll know this is a god send. I used to have to plan my rides on my SXV carefully (70 miles per tank)

I think what makes this bike so popular is because there is finally a combination with racy tards feel (501, 500exc, SMR, etc..) and street level maintenance/practicality.

Again, I loved my SMR, but changing the oil after a few rides and checking valves every other ride became old. I also had a to do a top end at 9K.

When I first bought my 690 SMC, I seriously thought it would be the solution, but I quickly found out the stock suspension is really bad (I had my forks reworked too) and the bike just didn't have the light and nimble feeling. Since you have a WR450, you know exactly what I mean.

My cons for the 701 would be:

- kind of expensive
- wish it had a tach
- shock preload collar inaccessible unless you remove shock, no fork preload adjustment.
- Not so good brembo coffin master
- some questionable parts prices (plastics are cheap, but a blank key costs $100/2) ?!
- Tall stock gearing - don't even need to shift to 6th until 80.


Overall i'm really pleased with the bike. It's amazing to have that kind of performance/feel in a gas and go kind of bike. Like many of you, I wanted a race tard performance in a bike that you don't have to really do much to maintain. On top of that, it can cruise all day at 90 mph with no stress and many folks have converted them to rally bikes for distance riding.

I plan on buying the 2019 version the minute it hits the states.

You're making the 701 sound very tempting...

To fill the void between my 1290 SDR and WR450 I thought about getting an 1100 Hyper and now maybe a 701.

If you had to choose between the 1100 Hyper and 701, which one would you take?

the 1100 Hypermotard is a pretty special bike to me. I just love it. It never particularly handled well, was comfortable or did anything extraordinary, but it had a real character to it that I just loved. As a rider's bike it's not really that great, but damn it was beautiful to look at.

If I had to choose between the 701 and the 1100, it's not even a contest, the 701. I would pick the 701 over 99% of the bikes out right now, but FWIW, I love SM.

If I could have only one do-it-all bike in the garage right now, i'd probably buy a 701 enduro, and put a aurora rally kit on it and add an extra set of 17s.

I'm not even a dirt guy, but with that kind of setup, You can pretty much ride anything you want.

That's also why I love the 1100. Being one of the last air cooled dry clutch Ducatis, and how brutal it looks and sounds. Man it's quite the piece of art.

I'm a huge SM fan myself, you find yourself wanting to just collect them.

Wow the 701 sounds like THE damn bike haha. They're so expensive for being a damn supermoto.

That's an awesome offer, when time comes to purchase one I may take you up on it.

I know the 2019 KTM 690 is slated to receive the updated engine. Are you going to buy that bike or the 2019 701? Will the 701 be updated for 2019? Can't seem to find any info on the Husky variant for 2019.

what skid plate is that on there? An oem ktm 690 enduro?


Edit: never mind. I figured it out. Have one on order and bushings and collars. Looks better and is half price of 701 enduro oem plate!

Well which one is it?

Had clutch slave changed out today. Haven't ridden it yet but dealer did so i assume im back to waiting to see what breaks next.
