Next Tuesday it'll have been at the dealer that told me 2-3 weeks for 3 weeks . I called this past Tuesday to see what was going on with my bike and they said they hadn't touched it yet. Wednesday morning i called back and bitched as politely as one can bitch at the people that have your bike and me with no other real options. Wednesday night they called me and asked a little bit about the motor. Donno if that means they started on it or just trying to keep me happy. Doubt i get it back in 2018. Keep you guys posted.

Got a call today saying my bike is done. So 5 weeks on a 2-3 week quote. Could be worse. Still donno how thorough a job was done. Will update when i pick it up

Put 100 miles or so on the bike today. Seams fine. Mid range does seam noticeably less powerful now that it's back to stock. Still, clutches up 3rd no problems so may just leave it this way.

Bike left me semi stranded again today. Clutch slave cylinder is my guess. Hope you guys are having better luck than me

The FS570 is just like the SMR bikes - very racy and light. I didn't really notice anything different having the piston angled the way it is, but the bike is very small/light. Reminds me of my SM510R

What makes the 701 great to me.

- No compromise - revs fast, and racy, but yet very long service intervals.
- 75 hp on a thumper?!
- At all speeds, especially highway speeds (80-95) there is practically no vibration. Feels smoother than my 1290 Super Adventure R. I would never guess this was a thumper.
- Stock suspenders have decent valving. Very good out of the box. Compliant, not stiff.
- Even at 320 lbs, the bike wears it's weight well. At speed, it's just as nimble as my SMR.
- Seat is surprisingly comfortable. I use a Seat Concepts seat as well, and swap between both.
- Perfect out of box fueling.
- incredible fuel range. 130 ~ miles before gas light came on. If you ride a racy tard, you'll know this is a god send. I used to have to plan my rides on my SXV carefully (70 miles per tank)

I think what makes this bike so popular is because there is finally a combination with racy tards feel (501, 500exc, SMR, etc..) and street level maintenance/practicality.

Again, I loved my SMR, but changing the oil after a few rides and checking valves every other ride became old. I also had a to do a top end at 9K.

When I first bought my 690 SMC, I seriously thought it would be the solution, but I quickly found out the stock suspension is really bad (I had my forks reworked too) and the bike just didn't have the light and nimble feeling. Since you have a WR450, you know exactly what I mean.

My cons for the 701 would be:

- kind of expensive
- wish it had a tach
- shock preload collar inaccessible unless you remove shock, no fork preload adjustment.
- Not so good brembo coffin master
- some questionable parts prices (plastics are cheap, but a blank key costs $100/2) ?!
- Tall stock gearing - don't even need to shift to 6th until 80.


Overall i'm really pleased with the bike. It's amazing to have that kind of performance/feel in a gas and go kind of bike. Like many of you, I wanted a race tard performance in a bike that you don't have to really do much to maintain. On top of that, it can cruise all day at 90 mph with no stress and many folks have converted them to rally bikes for distance riding.

I plan on buying the 2019 version the minute it hits the states.

what skid plate is that on there? An oem ktm 690 enduro?


Edit: never mind. I figured it out. Have one on order and bushings and collars. Looks better and is half price of 701 enduro oem plate!

It is indeed for a KTM 690 enduro r. Which can be bought online at aomc for under 40$. Checked halls husqvarna and the oem 701 enduro skid plate is $101. They are both plastic but the KTM one seems to have a bit more coverage on the motor which will be nice for off-roading and keeping the mud at bay.

I was just informed last night about a billet clutch slave that is made much better and should last. I guess it’s more of an enduro thing since those bikes ride in the middle of nowhere more frequently. I have yet to look into it.


Are you running crg mirrors? How did you put the one on the throttle side? Unbolt brake master then re attach?

Yes I bought the bushings and collars. I was unsure so I went to motor cafe and ordered everything and also was able to see / touch one on a new 690enduro.

Two #5’s and two #8’s


I was unsure after seeing Stan say you needed the collars and bushings, so I went to motor cafe instead of ordering but I did get the needed clarification. I thought buying the kit, you would get everything. #5 and #8 are OUTSIDE of the circle in all the parts fiches but are right there.

You can copy and paste the part numbers from bike bandit into aomc and they have them so you can lump everything together in one order from the same site for the best price (AOMC.com)

After pricing it out online and going to motor cafe, I was pleasantly surprised that motor cafe was within 50 cents of the best online price, and I would much rather support a local dealership
