Speedway Invitational - Prairie City SVRA

I made it out to the Speedway races put on by Big Timie Speedway last Friday night at Prairie City Dirt Track inside Prairie City SVRA near Sacramento. This was a Pro Invitational so only top riders on the program several of whom have won USA National or World Championships.

The racing was fantastic and the bike control on display is just jaw dropping. 170lb bikes with menthanol-fuled 500cc singles. No brakes so all direction changes are done with the throttle and testicles. Races are just four very intense laps. There are several heats leading up to the main so you see around 20 races during the night.

I'm not much of a photographer and I have never shot motor sports at night so I was just guessing on settings (I think I had the ISO set at 1 million or so ) so don't don't get your hopes up. It was a cool event and I heartily recommend everyone see Speedway racing in person. I met Barfer SuperMike just before the races started. He's big fan of Speedway and it was great to get his perspective.

Camera bike.

The riders line up before the first race for introductions. 3-time national champ Billy Janniro is the man to beat.

Speedway is all about getting sideways.

Even multi-time champions like to see their crash pics.

Lots of this all night.

I'll try to find some of the video from the event and post links when it becomes available. Thanks for looking.

my dad promoted a Version of this type of racing, only it was all on ice with spiked tires. It was a series that travelled around the nation to ice rink after ice rink. Shit was bad ass
