Mosquito Ridge Road ...

We did the classic sport-touring loop of Georgetown, Wentworth Springs Road, 11 Pines Road, Mosquito Ridge Road and back to Auburn last weekend. Here's our Relive link:

Bungee Brent's Run, 08/08/2020

Our frend Bungee Brent and fifteen of his Oakland Motorcycle Club friends met us in Georgetown on Saurday morning.

The 11 Pines/NF-2 Bridge over the Rubicon River on 11 Pines Road ...

Bungee had a drone, so we made an OMC sign on the bridge ...

He takes credit for the county ordinance prohibiting fun ...

A road sign near the French Meadows Reservoir ...

Taking a break at the intersection of Mosquito Ridge Road at the reservoir ... it was a hot day.

The North Fork Bridge on Mosquito Ridge Road ... it's a curved, deck truss bridge with cantilever elements, built in 1946 ... it crosses the Middle Fork of the American River.

Bungee Brent put on a great ride, and we could just barely keep up with all the good OMC riders, who basically could all ride rings around the SFMC ... We ended the ride at the Crooked Lane Brewing Company in Auburn and relived all the usual group-ride drama over their wonderful beer and root beer ...

The next day we made our way to Sierra City and rode the Gold Lake Highway on Monday ... that's the Sierra Buttes in the background.

Another view of the Sierra Buttes from the Wild Plum NF campground in Sierra City ... we stayed here two nights, before I had to ride my 1988 BMW K75s back to San Francisco for work ... Cary continued on with her 2016 Yamaha FJ-09 to Quincy and Ferndale and Gualala where I rode back to meet her on Saturday. All in all a good week of sport-touring and social distancing and mask wearing in NorCal ...

Can't recommend that Mosquito Ridge Road loop enough, if you've never done it ... a wonderful goat-y paved motorcycle ride, for sure.

Looks like you had a great trip. As soon as the smoke and heat clears I might consider it myself

So you're telling me I've gotta become a member of the SFMC to get great rides like that?

I'm in, where do I sign up & how much are the dues?

great ride, if you've never done it ... I'd not been up there for maybe ten years and had forgotten how dramatic the drop down Mosquito Ridge is from French Meadows to the bridge ...

we were actually kind of guests on an OMC ride ... the SFMC (like BARF) has not had an "official" ride since Covid ... I'm going to be headed to Stonyford on Sept. 3rd on the KLR to do some big-ADV-bike fire road stuff, be fun to ride together then if that Labor Day works for you ...

anyway, the OMC has way cheaper dues and is way easier to join than the SFMC and way closer to Hayward ... not that we wouldn't be happy to have you at the SFMC! And both clubs love and welcome guest riders, too ...

Done Mosquito Ridge countless times and burnt up at Ward Ferry If you continue to the right at the end of the dam on Mosquito, it eventually runs into Ice House Road, but the roads getting over grown!

Let me know the next time you're planning to go up there?

September 3rd is a Thursday... We talking about a 4-day weekend?

I just picked up a collapsible Tenkara flyfishing rod so I wouldn't mind trying Stony Creek for some trout... or anything else edible.

Great looking roads! My friend and I did a trip to Auburn/Paradise/Truckee last year. Will have to catch some of these roads next time we do some moto camping.

How is the pavement out there? I haven't been out there in a few years, last time it was pretty bad. Lots of base failures and potholes.

it was pretty gnarly on an ‘88 BMW K75s ...

some of the OMC guys were railing (imo ) on Goldwings, though ... just had to watch out for wheel eating pot holes ...

(we did learn that the 6 cylinder GW crashes well ... )

Are you suggesting a group ride 89fj?
The Relive link is cool even though the active map made me dizzy. I wandered through some of that area on a longcut coming back from Reno. Good goaty riding.

Thanks! I'll keep it at a safe pace when I head out there again.

See, one of the advantages of a GS is that it's SUPPOSED to crash well. And survive to show off battle scars.

Chicks are supposed to dig scars, amirite?
