Beginner dualsport wanted (wr250r/drz400/dr650)

-Case CLOSED friend bought a 250,all good now.

I got a couple buddies getting into street/offroad riding and have a dr650 myself. I've owned a drz400, and been looking for used wr250r's for them with no luck yet. My friends would be commuting in the east bay and hitting up trails/doing camping trips so has to be a highway/offroad capable bike (obviously a compromise at both, but these are the bikes I know can do it on their budget)

Looking for lowish mileage, well maintained bikes around $3-5k depending on farkles etc. Trying to stick to these UJM bikes as I know them best and think for their mechanical ability/budgets it would be best. plated/registered bikes only. a klx400 would be cool too lol, cash ready for the right bike

Thanks!

Moto Java at 9th St. and Bryant in San Francisco has two low, low milage (like 1200?) DR650s on the floor, today.

they just found them in Sac'to from a husband/wife. Look brand new. Pipes/carbs/SeatConcepts, bash plates, one is lowered ...

ime, clean DR650s are kinda hard to find ...?

no connection w/ Moto Java or the DRs (or DRs at all, buy a KLR, ftw! ), only happened to be in the shop just now and was impressed with the bikes ...

cool your friends are getting ADV riding, good luck with your search, and have fun!

Thanks! I just saw one on CL, too low mileage for the budget imo but really nice bike. I keep telling them to buy something round 10k miles for these bikes cause thats when the price really comes down and they last so damn long anyway, but then again I bought my dr with 18k and then the 3rd gear broke about 10k later

The third gear issue is a known one. I have two DR650s. (Don't judge me!!!) One has around 60K and just had the top end rebuilt. The other I bought with a blown top end and had it rebuilt. It's at 10K now and going strong.

Tell your buddies to keep their eyes peeled and the right bike will pop up.

Might I suggest - https://bayarearidersforum.com/forum...d.php?t=543801

I'd have probably bought this bike had it been for sale when I bought my DRZ

appreciate the comments, I took my friend 2 up on my DR and had him try riding around in the dirt on some little hill climbs to see how he handled a big bike coming off of smaller dirt bikes, and he did well/liked the bike so I'm on the lookout for the right one now. He's probably going to end up doing 90% street miles tho so while that KTM is a sweet deal I want to make sure he has a bulletproof bike that I can help him wrench on. Maybe ill get an orange bike one of these days
