I dunno, now to be fair, ones a prototype and the other (I guess) is production, but, to me, the Harley is ugly and the Indian much sexier.

Maybe this is what it has to look like to be legal on the street for human beings, but the Indian just looks a lot better to me.

The Indian is just a custom build show bike. A production version would be cool but is unlikely. In repeated interviews Indian has been non-commital about expanding beyond the cruiser market.

A production bike would look quite a bit different with a larger fuel tank (this is only 2.2 gallons). On this bike the airbox is where the fuel tank normally would be the and the actual fuel tank is behind the airbox and below the seat. There would also be longer bodywork, bigger seat, turn signals and tail light. The biggest difference would be the wheels because the high profile flat track racing tires and 19" wheels that look so right on this custom build would likely be replaced with a 17" rear and 17" or 18" front and low profile radials to make for a very different looking bike.

Not true.

It is a prototype and Indian has been promising to move beyond the cruiser market for quite some time now. They want to be true to Indians "racing heritage ".

Absolutely true. Indian's website even refers to the bike as a custom tribute to the FTR750. Nowhere does it say prototype on the website or in any of press materials about the bike. Its just a show piece. I've love them to build one but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Do your homework. If you read the article and many other interviews from the various people in charge at Indian/Polaris they have stated over and over again that they will be moving outside the cruiser market. They won't say how or when until they introduce a new bike though. The ftr1200 is probably very close to what will be produced. They are already using that engine in the current Scout model. It shouldn't be so hard for them to start mass production of a similar motorcycle soon.

Great. Find me an article where they commit to moving outside the cruiser market.

Good luck with that.

Read the last paragraph on the link. Also, as I said before they have stated time and time again they will be moving outside of the cruiser models. Do your own homework or call me a liar. Whatever.

Not gonna call anybody anything, but I'll say I will believe it (a production model) when I see it.

I say the same thing about Bigfoot, UFOs, Loch Ness, and on and on....

You're gonna eat your words when Bigfoot rides an FTR1200 around Loch Ness while being chased by a UFO.

This is a custom one off bike that was built to compete in AMA Flat Track Pro. Not a production bike by any means. If it were, it would be $30k-$50k.

IF Indian makes a production version it will be either: A) stupid expensive and handmade B) changed to meet EPA C) changed to accommodate assembly line tooling.

This isn't the droid you're looking for, but one sure can DREAM.

Not really. Indian has built, delivered and raced several of the model FTR750 which is the flat track race bike. The FTR1200 is a show bike and would not be legal anyway for American Flat Track (new name for AMA Pro Flat Track) Twins competition due to engine size.

If anyone wants to see street tracker Indian Scouts, check out the SuperHooligans flat track races at Costa Mesa Speedway and selected other tracks around the country. The series is for production bikes with a few mods including 19" flat track wheels and tires. The racing is fun to watch and the variety of bikes (Indian Scouts, HD Sportsters, Triumph Bonnevilles, Ducati Scramblers) are cool as hell. The Indian Scouts look particularly good in SuperHooligan form.

Indian has been very supportive. They gave a brand new Scout 60 to the winner of the first SuperHooligan race a few years ago in Las Vegas. They gave the winner of this year's SuperHooligan championship an FTR750 race bike. And, of course, they spent a bunch of money on the AFT teams and associated sponsorship this season. I'm thrilled with all they have done.
