My stand is that Alvaro has been showing enough skill to get a bunch of top five action or showing. He's interesting for that. He's never going to go faster than that. Jorge won't win a title this year, but he may win one again.

Barbera, Abraham, Smith, Asparagus Bros, Baz, Redding, Rabat all did worse than Bautista, who finished 12th last year. Those guys from 8th to 15th are the guys who make it interesting, particularly if they can fun in the top five for a good part of the race.

Barbera is like the mid class of Moto2, they fill the field out with solid riding.

when? Alvaro isnt showing said skill this off-season. of the glimpses we've seen of him in the off-season coverage, he looks stiff and uncomfortable. his interviews are blah and hes not the upbeat Alvaro we get when hes doing well. u are putting way too much stock in past results IMO.

thats y I brought up Jorge. we know Jorge aint going to win the title because of XYZ and u are willing to agree. the same applies to Alvaro. shit has changed and hes not getting along with it.

im somewhat tempted to blame the team for missing the setup. however, the GP 17 was actually known for working well in many diff conditions at nearly all the tracks. and Duc openly shares data w/ their Sat teams. so they should have a solid base setup. the only think that I can think of that would be throwing them off is new tires. but I don't think there were new tires anywhere but Qatar. and Michelin has been bring old tires too for comparison, so Alvaro should have been able to be fast with those. the only idea that makes sense is that hes the first rider to favor the GP16 over the GP17, which is bonkers.

So Jorge is broken? or has he gone deeper in his hole where if it works its great but anything outside that narrow range has been tightened up?

Admit it -- you've been saying this for six years.

i mean, Marquez almost ruined his career in moto2 with his eyesight. its not out of the realm of possibility that it could happen again. you cant walk on the razor's edge forever without getting cut.

Of course! Well, not six years, but four. And it's a good question. He's already had one crash that almost ended his career with vision problems and was fixed only with very risky surgery.

Nobody gets away with riding the edge forever. Rossi has had a 20+ year career. Marquez won't if he keeps crashing.

Marquez won’t need 20+ years to shatter all of Rossi’s records, though.

MM is behind early-Rossi in terms of titles and prob even win percentage.

For the record, MM will never equal Rossi's records.

He’s got 6 titles and he’s 25...

he can match Rossi’s title count by the time his new HRC contract sunsets and still have years to play with other manufactures.

With Yamaha lost in an Epic way who is really going to stop him?

The problem for Marquez is that you can only ride on the razor edge for so long, then your reflexes start slowing down and it doesn't take much decline to go from spectacular saves to spectacular accidents and before long the body is too beat up to continue.

I really enjoy watching him race, but there's a time limit on that style and he currently lacks the willpower to tone it down a bit if he thinks he can win the race.

I give him even odds on breaking Rossi's records.
