Corvette Question for the BARF Hive

1985 Corvette C4

Our neighbors/ friends moved to Lake Powell (cool stories bro) he help with the parents and things keep happening.

Lisa needs to sell her Dad's Corvette in Phoenix. It's pretty sweet.
This:

"102,250 miles original owner, always garaged, never been in an accident. air conditioner works great! removable hard top

Selling for my 89 year old father; he has difficulty getting out of the car and does not drive it much anymore.

New battery, recently serviced. Needs some work - exhaust system has holes but the car just passed some test, seats are deteriorating along edges, front and rear bumpers have either oxidation or clear coat is being eaten away by the Arizona climate..."

Suggestions? Craigslist is hellish, I believe. I suggested the local Corvette club. I told her to price it to sell and it will go away. And I told here about the photos she would need...

You guys have any wisdom to share?

Donate it and be done. Sounds like a headache.

1984 wasnt exactly a high performance year for anything detroit made. In CA itll likely always be smog controlled and being from Arizona all those vacuum hoses are cracked and leaking if someone didnt already do a smog delete.

Though, the '80 seem to be making a comeback.

Those mid 80's Corvettes had to have been the least desirable.

Nah. That would be the mid 70s models. 1975 is the most god awful year ever. The top engine barely cracked 200hp. Awful wavy plastic bumpers. Catalytic converters melting the passengers feet. Just garbage.

1985 is the car they wanted to make for 1984(hell, 1983 actually), but the engine wasnít ready yet. The 84 had a terrible cross fire injection setup. While the C4 was a big deal when it came out, that engine kinda let it down. They still sold an absolute shitload though. The 85 got the tuned port injection engine which was much better and made the car a strong performer. There was an option that made the car handle better called Z51, so if it has it it should be worth noting.

Saying ďhard topĒ is a bit misleading. When I hear removable hard top, I think of the convertible model. Which I know it isnít, as the droptop didnít come back till 86. Better to call it targa roof, and denote if itís see through or if itís solid (body color).

Oxidized paint and worn seat leather is par for the course with those, but easily fixed if you want to dress it up to sell it.

Oh totally agree. Just stay 1968-72 and youíre in good shape. If I ever wanted the headache of keeping a classic car running, a Ď69 with a 427 tri power and a 4 speed rock crusher tranny would be it for me.

This ^^

As a reference, I recently sold my 90 C4, 120k miles, nice interior, needed nothing to be a great looking daily. Not a perfect car but a nice example for $7500.

The C4s are gaining a little $$ in the market, but veeeerryy slowly. Mileage is key on pricing, over 100k seems to be the mark where it declines, no matter what the year.

I wouldnt spend much trying to "fix" things on it, just clean it up and sell it, there isnt much you can do to these cars that will get you your investment back dollar for dollar. They all have the same issues, and anyone looking for one will know that.

GLWS, let me know if it can be had for a grand, Ill get the trailer rolling

1984-88. The ďDoug Nash 4+3Ē was a bit of a funky thing. In a nutshell, it was a 4 speed with an electrohydraulic overdrive gear that could be engaged with a button if the transmission was in gears 2, 3, or 4 effectively giving you seven rations. Garbage. The 1989 model got a ZF 6 speed which was a quantum leap better.

Amazingly enough, Corvettes would come back to a seven speed manual three decades later.
