WSBK news:

Maria Herrera will race the World Supersport Championship in 2019 for MS Racing. She will split riding duties between WSS and MotoE with only one conflicting round.

Quote:
A brief MS Racing statement read: "We want to thank [series promoter] Dorna, Yamaha Racing and Yamaha Spain, who have helped us take this project forward, allowing us to promote a promising young rider and give her continuity after she took part in World Supersport 300 with us last year."

2019 WSBK testing starts in two weeks at Jerez (Jan 23-24) and then moves to Portimao (Jan 27-28) before everyone heads to Phillip Island in late February for more testing and Round 1.

Warmer for Day 2 at Jerez.

Davies only put in a handful of laps due to some back pain. Sykes only used a transponder late in the day so not all his laps were recorded. TS66 had one crash but walked away. Sandro Cortese also crashed and I believe he was unhurt.

Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) 1’39.160
Alex Lowes (Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team) 1’39.372 +0.212

Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) 1’39.620 +0.460

Sandro Cortese (GRT Yamaha Team) 1’40.075 +0.915
Michael van der Mark (Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team) 1’40.145 +0.985

MCN UK - WSB: Pirelli to bring new tyre for sprint race

excerpt:
Quote:
Throwing another variable into the mix, sole tyre supplier Pirelli has decided to create a new tyre for these sprint races. The new compound, dubbed the SCX, will first appear at Aragon for Round 3 in early April.

The idea of the SCX is to have a rear tyre which lasts for half the distance of a usual race compound but longer than a qualifying tyre. It will be identified by red stickers.

The SCX will not be compulsory in the sprint races. This allows the possibility of a real mix-up: will riders elect for a usual race tyre to ensure better durability or fit the SCX for greater pace while running the risk of losing grip in the closing stages.

The regular Pirelli WSBK race tire drops off after nine laps or so which seems about right for the 10 lap Sunday morning sprint race. Seems like the last thing non-factory WSBK crews need is another set up variable which the factory teams can exploit.

I wonder if whoever is thinking up this shit is purposefully ignoring any thought of unintended consequences just to get their "cool idea" out there.
