On Prewitt ridge the flies are pretty nasty but probably not this time of year. if you have a campfire it kinda shoes them away.

here's a pic of a campsite with a picnic table on the way down to Prewitt Ridge:

this campsite had big logs to sit on around the fire pit ... and a tree for a hammock ...

no bugs or silt up there in January ...

don't recall having to get an Adventure Pass for Prewitt Ridge, but it's been a while ... don't you only need an AP to park a vehicle at a trailhead by itself for a while ...?

I'm thinking your final pic there might be where my 12 year old pics are from.

Thanks for the info.

I think I'll end up calling Hunter Liggett first anyway, just because I can't imagine getting her arrested would go over well (if they don't allow foreign nationals, even with no gate).

Haha you like it it's $1.50 at Daiso, it's not a very good chair but it's nice to prop things up on so they don't sit on the dirt. But you could sit on it you'd be squatting a lot.

Thanks! And, boy, you ain't kiddin' about the 2-legged chair and drinking. These days, even if I'm sober it's a bitch to get in/out of. I bought one that has the bar across the front which turns it onto a 4-legged chair. It's still hard to get up off the ground from a sitting position, but at least I don't fall over when I'm in it! Zoom in on the photo and you can see the bar on the chair on the left. It's a little bigger when packed up but it's worth it. Also Alite brand.

Also, we camped and rode through Nac-Ferg over New Years Eve. We camped in the Santa Lucia Memorial Campground the first night, as we got there too late to go exploring. The next morning we took off back towards Fort Hunter Liggett and checked out all the side roads between the campground and the military boundary. We found a fantastic place to camp near the creek, and we had the place to ourselves. It was great!

i dont think you have to worry about the base. i dunno about naciemento but to get to lake san antonio (right next door) there is a public road that travels right through it to the lake and there arent any check points where you have to show id. i think youre fine. i used to love going through there as a kid. we always went right around when they did war games out there and we would get to see the tanks on their firing range. pretty cool to see.

I'm not sure how you'd go through Hunter Liggett to get to Lake San Antonio. I know G14 skirts the border but don't think it enters the base proper.

N-F goes through the base proper. I know it used to have checkpoints, apparently not anymore.

Yeah there's always some interesting stuff going on at Fort Hunter Liggett. I stopped and ate at the DFAC when I still had my military ID. One time I got stopped by some MPs in full battle rattle because they were doing some kind of field training exercise. Another time they were doing a controlled burn. Crazy riding through a forest fire. Gotta be careful riding around there are lots of ranges out there and I was wandering around the forest roads one time and ran into a base training site full of soldiers doing training. Another time there was actually water in those watercrossings some of them are pretty slick.

The only checkpoint I know of is the gate to get into the cantonement area. You will need a military ID to get in there or some reason to be there. There's really nothing to do there anyway I know because when I was in the Army Reserve I did an annual training there super boring.

You can get to Lake San Antonio it's a good distance from Fort Hunter Liggett. I went and checked it out one time there wasn't even any water in it, this was when we still had a drought though. You can tell where the water used to be where it's still green.

i think they finally re opened the lake after being closed for 10 years last year. im thinking wrong. i thought you meant just regular roads cuz you take jolan rd from king city then make a left when you get to the entrance of the base. sorry
