True but most moto accidents are self inflicted, too fast for conditions, riding impared etc

Illegal does not matter. Most of California is double yellow, even though it is perfectly safe for a motorcycle to pass.

Stupid is conspicuous in the United States. Especially since when it comes to driving.

Agreed. The point of my comment was that the oft-heard statistics about death/crash rates of motorcyclists being X times that of car drivers include people who take excessive risk while riding. Seeing riders taking excessive risk reminds me that while dangerous, riding might not be quite the gamble those oft-quoted statistics would have you believe.

Often, as I get on a bike (or wake up in bed for that matter) I think to myself: Welp today's as good a day as any to die, so I'd might as well enjoy myself; but I'll go ahead and try to mitigate some risk and avoid dying if possible.

When riding, as with all things, a little moderation and forethought are often worthwhile.

I totally understand and agree.
My comment was specific to wrong-way driving. Some stuff is just pure fate.
