all this GS talk has got me worked up.

So I think I am going to rent one for a day from one of those rental places. I want to make sure its what I want before I do anything drastic

anyone else down?

What? You gonna get rid of Versys #3?

If I rented one and took my wife for a ride on it, it would either get her off the GS bandwagon, or seal my fate.

The RT has a 7.1 gallon tank, which to me is huge, I made it from San Jose to Tahoe City and had nearly 2 gallonsof gas left in the tank, I passed 100's of gas stations and another 100 miles left before needing gas. I can get at least 4 hours of riding on a tank and at times up to 6, this thing is a Camel! In contrast the Dorsoduro wants gas after just 80 miles of travel.

Well the low fuel warning must be a damn liar. I've run the bike down to where it says I have 20 miles left on the tank and then I've still only put 5 gallons into the tank. You're telling me I can only go 20 miles on the remaining 2 gallons?

EDIT: My manual says my tank is 6.6 gallons.

I guess the 2006's have a bit more tank, which is surprising. Remind not to go touring with you, I don't want to have to stop that often for gas.

Your bike is a gas sissy. AKA, Wikipidia shows 6.6, but the search right beneath that says 7.1 gallons for the 2006, I can swear I've run it down to empty and get 7 glallons in her. Never trust what you read on the Internet.

Regarding the RT vs. GS, I test drove the GS and it didn't do it for me, my friend that rode my bike says it was too small for him, but he noted that the 2009+ RT's are a better fit for taller folks as they adds more leg room between the pegs.. I will agree that the pre 2009 RT's have a short peg height.
