WTF no R1 in WSBK?

So did Yamaha and FIM have some kind of bitch fight or are the ZX10R and the APRC so dominant the boys in blue just decided to stay home? Why no 2015 R1? I mean seriously, there's a fucking EBR in WSBK... well at least at the start of qualifying.

Rumor is Yamaha will return to WSBK in 2016 after a year of development on the new R1. How much of a factory or satellite effort it will be is anyone's guess.

new rules, new bike, devotion to GP == no Yamaha factory effort in WSBK. even when the bike does get run next year, i doubt itll be a full factory team.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't remember a R1 being in WSBK since Spies. EBR, Bimota and MV yes, but no Yamaha.

Crutchlow rode it in 2010 and Melandri in 2011 after Spies left for GP.

So no 2012, 2013, 2014 or even the new generation 2015 R1 in WSBK. Not even on a non-factory basis. Lame. Except maybe is says something about the competitiveness (or non-competitiveness) about the Yamaha when teams race BMW and Ducati without factory support.

I imagine it's a bean counter decision. Hey at least there is an AMA effort.

What is this thing you speak of "AMA?" I remember once a glorious institution by that name, but it is ling dead; replaced by the mighty AFM!

private teams tend to go after known-quantities, esp in SBK. doing development is really expensive and u cant get to a high level without factory-support these days. with the current electronic rules, all the private teams are getting electronic help from the factories that are running in the class. without Yamaha there, a private R1 team would really have to do it all themselves. and thats just the electronics, building a new engine is no joke.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the Ducati team had no factory support last year and the year before and neither did BMW after the Melandri season.

i think u r correct, that they got no factory support throughout the year. but they were still able to purchased SBK-prepped bikes or at least obtain the knowledge on how to build the bike. even those bikes were known quantities for all teams because the factory had run/built them previously. someone running an R1 this year doesnt even get that.
