unfortunately it doesn't happen. a lot of the road construction I see around here is creating bike lanes, adding islands on big streets, narrowing wide streets, adding planters and trees to said islands... a lot of roads in the bay area should have priority over these projects.

I've written a couple city council memebrs including Lynette Gibson and they never reply... I'm sure the money will go to something but it seems like I (average joe) don't have any say what it will go to/repair so I'm against it.

the priority of making streets in downtown look "nice" vs actually repairing bad roads in rural and/or residential has bothered me for a long time. I would be happy to pay if I had a legal guarantee it would go to fixing roads in my area or at least make it legal for me to fix them myself...

Some food for thought. I have several friends who work for the city of San Jose. Guess what, the city has a huge surplus of revenue just siting there. No they will not hire more building inspectors, no they will not increase the salary's of the current overworked ones.
Same goes for every department.

Well how about we all meet on the Bay Bridge and form a human chain across the entire length of the deck? During commute hours of course.

Gosh, if only there were ways motorcyclists could join together and raise their voices against such things.

I would try to help, but there is that helmet law thing that I can't agree with and if you're not on my side, you're on your own so.....

Really the Government is double dipping while triple back flipping.
This thread will be the end of it for most people except for writing a fatter check.

Non-oping a vehicle reduces the insurance, right? Doesn't that reduce the insurance company's income and thus taxable income to the state? Can our BARFer insurance agents talk to their corporate HQs and make the case to have the companies lobby Sacto?

Its obvious that building, maintaining and servicing roads needs more revenue, but I would rather it come from user fees like gas tax and tolls than registration.

He is also planning on raising the Gas tax.

I saw a news story on this and the people who get the bids to fix the roads are very happy.

One of them was saying this was a good thing because it creates jobs..
