There's an OK amount of runoff in T3 for the configuration of Laguna Seca. While not being familiar with the exact incident, I'd guess he got out to the tire walls and bounced back onto one of the storm grates, etc. You've got to fuck up pretty bad to get out to the tire walls.

You sure do. I've picked up quite a few bikes from that area over the years. I haven't noticed exposed drainage there, though that doesn't mean there isn't anything there. As you say, you've got to go a long way to find something other than gravel out there.

We need to have better details on the incident but I agree with HoleShot. He must have fucked it up somehow to be out in the twilight zone.

Where is this drainage ditch? The most obvious grate is 8b. These clowns could get our SAFEST local track closed, if they prevail. How stupid is that. Little weasels. No offense to Weasel.
EDIT: You can reach the tires in three and four. Most people are going too slow to get there in three. Most people turn in early at four and are pointed toward five before going fast enough to get to the tires in four.

If an amateur rider running track day speeds runs all the way through the runoff at turn 3 or turn 5, they have fucked up spectacularly and would have nobody to blame for their predicament but themselves. My guess is that Mr. Consonants either panicked or simply decided not to slow down and tried to ride it out well off track in an area that was past the runoff.

There is no "ditch" in the gravel trap. unless it was a deep groove left by another bike or car; there are only old tires and a wall along the far edge.

If you go to the track expect to be hurt or die. Accept it and move on.

My God I get tired of people who sign a waiver admitting that this "may cause serious injury or death" and then sue.

If the pipe was in the middle of turn 3 on track... OK.. I can see it.

Rider sucked at the track and now off it.

Quote:
But an attorney for The Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula — the organization that manages the track — accused the motorcyclist of “driving
recklessly” and said the March 2016 accident was his fault.

"Furthermore, Swartz said Dziurzynski crashed at Turn 3 because he was “driving

vicinity of Turn 3.”

Laguna should be up to some FIM standard, but i wouldnt be surprised if some parts fail that near the offseason. with how close all the walls are, there better not be any "ditches". the guy might have something.

im not a fan of the gravel Laguna uses in their traps. the depth and firmness is inconsistent. some corners u can run off fine. others it feels like u are hitting a curb, esp if its misty/foggy.

There is a drainage culvert at the outside of 8a way over by the fence. With the terrain there, they need something like that. I jumped the thing years ago when I deliberately ran off track to avoid oil that had covered the track all the way across. Slid the rear to point it down the hill and stopped on the concrete pad near the entrance to Rainey.

Tracks in days past could be very dangerous. So I always had a plan. If I thought a track was too dangerous, I didn't race that day. It is always up to the participant to protect themselves, if you are not comfortable with the conditions, don't race.
