I don't recall testing with a full 2016 chassis during the year. ill have to look that up. they def never raced it until Valencia. the chassis Yamaha developed early in the year was supposed to be a combination of the 2017 and 2016 one. its possible they brought out a 2016 for a private test with that. but given how few days they have and how laborious it is to test 3 chassis at once, I kinda doubt they did that. 2017v2 was released after ~1/3rd of a the season IIRC with little noticeable improvement in results.

thats always the thing in GP... if u aren't going faster, u are getting slower. at least one of the other factories will improve some time throughout the year, leaving u behind.

I am perplexed by this argument that Yamaha brought a bad bike to the championship last year. Maverick won 3 of the first 5 races and came in second in race 6. That doesn't seem like such a bad bike. Something changed, didn't it? I have my memories of what happened, but perhaps others know better than me. He still finished 3rd in the championship. I am sure all those riders who finished behind MV, have a different viewpoint of the bike.

making a bike thats faster than your competitors for only the first 1/3rd of the year doesn't win championships.

the bike was shit because it wouldn't operate well in a wide range of conditions and it didnt respond to setup changes in a "normal" understandable way.

Wasn't it like this regarding the M1:

- Maverick goes fast in preseason
- Vale kinda goes meh
- Michelin change front tire construction
- M1 starts sucking
- Vale and a few riders pitch a fit about the tires
- Tire construction gets "Changed" again
- M1 remains bipolar the remainder of the season

This is more in line with my recollection of what went wrong for MV. Rumor was that Val really wanted to change to the #70 tire, and that is what happened. It happens that Marky-Marc might also prefer that tire, as might Dovi. Lorenzo and Vinales, not so much.

In addition, did not Zarco ride the '17 bike in post season and do just fine? I am not sure, anymore, since there is a lot of blame-game with the Yamaha riders, it seems to me.

Zarco did okay on the 17 chassis, but switched to the 16 and, IIRC will be riding the latter in 2018.

Looks like Yamaha is going to split development for both riders.

Is Rossi still the good guy even though it seems no one can share garage space with him? At some point the problem is YOU and not everyone else.

Anyone seen times or reports from the Moto2 tests at Valencia? All I can find* is a Twitter post from MarcVDS stating that Alex Marquez was fastest on day one and that day two was canceled due to rain.

*OK, I'm not looking real hard.
