And also, it's pretty easy to tell when someone's frustrated on the road, even if they don't try to run you down. Trite counterpoints like, "Most people will just go about their day (or night) doesn't mean you haven't done something that pisses them off." is hardly evidence that I have done something wrong. It's possibly to be objectively aware of one's effects on surrounding people, you know.
The contention of the thread is inconsiderate lighting. The OP was pissed off but he didn't road rage or try to run anyone down. Generally its not what people do.

You would have to be incredibly perceptive to be aware of your effect on even a small percentage of the the people you pass at night, especially lane splitting. How many faces would you even see? less than 5% would be my guess. Then running none DOT lights.
I'm sticking to my previous comment.

Sure, go ahead and stick to your previous comment, and in doing so, ignore the context in the post of mine you quoted, and the rest of the thread. To use your logic, just because you're sticking to your comment, doesn't mean it's correct.

Putting a smilie at the end of your post doesn't make me incorrect either.

So break it down, the context of the thread is not about inconsiderate lightning? You are somehow aware of the thoughts and impressions you've made on all the drivers you've ever passed?

It's not a smile. I'm laughing at your stubbornness. At, not with.

Here's as much of a breakdown as you're gonna get.

- Yeah, the thread is about "inconsiderate" lighting. Duh.
- The part you highlighted in my post was a dig at numbnuts stuff like "And what does that lead to? More riders getting knocked off by enraged cage drivers. (thanks guys!) But can you blame the car drivers?" Duh.
- I don't have to see every driver's face to know that sensibly, or considerately directed, reasonably bright lighting isn't pissing people off any more than other normal lighting.

Now's the part where you challenge that last part, saying something about how I must just be denying how bright my lights are, blah blah blah, followed shortly by me not caring and having better shit to do that humor your pedantry.

Wow. You need to chill the fuck out. I honestly think some people that run these lights have no idea that they are as distracting and annoying as they are and that's the point I was trying to make. And no, I don't assume all the shitty-behaving ones are on BARF, you and I are on here aren't we?

Everyone knows it. Everyone over tints their windows, is way behind on registrations, insurance, basic car maintainence, speeds, illegally modifies their vehicles...

It is an easy fix, mandatory MOTs like most countries...but...no...mad max style is better I guess...
Agreed. Total Mad Max landrush.

VERY VERY VERY DISAGREED ON MOTs. Fuck giving the government more goddamn control over ALL of us for the transgressions of a few.

FUCK that. Just pull assholes over and enforce that way.

God damn. Wanting more legislation? Fuck. This is why we tea partied the UK in the first place.

Fuck.

Lol.

We ended up at the same coffee shop, so I approached him and said that while I could see him, it was hard to gauge the distance because the light was blinding me, and that may yield unwanted results. He genuinely thanked me and said he was going to look at something else then. Jolly bloke.
As a cyclist, I use either a solid rear light (not on highest occular burn level) or very slow pulse (again..keeping it less than laser). Fast abs super bright strobbing rear lights disorient me as a car driver and make it impossible to judge distance as you noted..I assume others are affected like me. Therefore, on a bicycle, no fast rear strobes.

Cygolite hot shot 2 rear light..the slightly older 30lumen model...in case you see a cyclist in need. No one needs more options than that light brings.

You're the one starting what is essentially a half-baked call-out thread:

It wasn't me! I ride a GS with auxiliary running light with yellow light lenses on them, but not at full brightness. The running lights only go full brightness when on high beam or flashing to prevent folks from turning in front of me. I do anything to help being seen including flashing rear brake lights.

The brake lights on the SF ambulances are super bright. I'd say so bright that they're very effective at deterring folks from following closely.

In my defense the night of, I was livid. The lights were so bright the shit was unsafe and I vented.

My post last night that you quoted was me trying to bring the post back on topic, by stating the reason I posted up here (because I suspect they are on here) - and no, not because of their "shitty behavior", but because I assume most riders in the Bay Area are. And if you don't like the thread you're always welcome to go post in another thread, there are quite a few of them on here last I checked.
