Question What's up with no touchscreens on Macbooks?

With every new MacBook announcement, I always check to see if they've added a touchscreen......no.

For many years now, you could get a windows machine with similar specs, for HALF the cost, and WITH a touchscreen.

Is Apple afraid that if they add a touchscreen it would be a tacit admission that they were stupid not to do it earlier? Or, are they afraid it would eat into iPad sales?

and yet they brought in that gimmicky touch-bar. Seems like an odd strategy.

touch screens are not necessary on laptops. Touch screens are good when form factor, size, and usage patterns limit input capability. A laptop/desktop does not have these limitations.

Aren't useful? I use mine all the time, and it has digitizer pen support as well. Everything you can do on a tablet, I can do on my laptop.

My guess is you'll see iOS available for Macs at some point.

I hardly ever use the touchscreen function of my laptop. I will use it for scrolling when the mouse is taking too long to get where I want to be.

I suspect Rod may have touched on the reason: MacOS hasn't been developed with touch input in mind. MS has been heading that direction for a long time.

It's called the iPad pro

FWIW, I have a keyboard for my iPad and really wish it had a touchpad. While it might be good for sketching, it's a total PITA for most navigation...IMO

Exactly. They have an ipad and iphone.

And more exactly.

What is the advantage to lifting your hand to touch a screen then bring it back down to where you started? Not efficient, imo. I would rather have a mouse, anyway. My 2 rat balls.

You can be sure that Apple has analyzed ad-nauseum whether touch should come to PC form factors. Their disinterest is almost certainly purposeful.

More likely the disinterest is because they were beat to the market a long time ago, so they pretend they're not interested. Typical Apple snobbery, played off as "wisdom".

Most (not all) touchscreen laptops can fold over 360 degrees into tablet mode. Very convenient when you don't need to type because all you're doing is browsing, reading, or watching movies. Example: watching a movie on an airline, with the keyboard face down on the table, screen towards you.

Seems like the snobbery and "wisdom" are working out pretty well for them.

They'll come out with a touchscreen macbook and call it bold new innovation. Apple fanbois will eat it up
