Mods: is BARF getting DDoS'ed?
Noticing that server running slow sometimes. Also noticing mixed content errors?
I think there's a free way to use Cloudflare to protect against DDoS and/or lessen load on server(s) by moving some content to edge. I think also AWS Cloudfront can be used for some of this too. Not sure on Ngninx, but I think Mod_Rewrite can fix mixed content errors by rewriting http to https. Cloudflare can also do.

I know it is not magic.
Invested my life in other things. Learn a little here and there. Apply what I know often. The riding part not often enough.  Hopefully get you a qualified response soon.
