Not sure that some will want 'good rain'.

Remember this? My daughter was in school at UCSB at the time, she wasn't at risk but nearby they had a horrible experience.

Can you come help rebuild our retaining wall that bunt in the Ranch Fire?

Also, wrt people starting fires and bearing no culpibility to damage, every time I drive by the rancher's house who started the Ranch Fire I want to burn that bitch down. How come he gets to live in a nice house and buy a brand fraking new truck and enjoy his barns when others lost everything they owned. Insurance might cover the structure but not the memories, the little things, the 40 year old set of pots and pans, the art, the photos ...Fuck people that start wildfires, they're stupid inconsiderate buttholes and should share some of the loss.

Rebuild the wall with bricks?

And I agree with that if there really wasn't any culpability, either way it isn't enough, even for those that have an indirect active role in the problem.

Its boggling my mind how huge these fires are. I have a personal interest in the Creek Fire, which has now burned over 322,000 acres and is just a whisper away from Edison and Florence lakes. it appears the only thing that will stop it is rain, or granite peaks. sadly there aren't enough granite peaks to really extinguish it untilll the rains show up

Probably because it is easier to let it burn. There are soooooooooo many dead trees out that direction due to beetles that have been needed to be cut down for years. Fire is natural even if it wasn't started naturally. After fire comes renewed life. I'm out in that area all the time and I don't recall the last time I've seen a loaded logging truck. Actually...I take that back, almost gotten smashed by one above bass lake in July. Before that......years.

No doubt. even with my emotional attachment i know it's a tremendous expenditure of resources to save a very small quantity of structures. could those resources be better spent elsewhere? i don't know. i'm glad they're trying to save what is there. family friends have property past where the roads end, on the south side of florence lake and as a family we've been visiting them up there since i was ~5 years old. i've taken my kids there to share as well. once the fire starts burning around the perimeter of florence i'd assume cal fire will just let it burn because access is by foot or air only. of course it's also a choke point for the fire, maybe a focused effort with some aerial fire suppression could snuff it out fairly easily.

there are so many dead trees back there, 24/7 logging for a decade probably wouldn't make a difference. This scenario was inevitable and it'll happen again elsewhere in the years to come. it's still sad. The forrest will recover just fine. my friends, i don't know.

ok, havn't been on barf for a while as we had to evac off of spring mountain in a hurry last sunday.
Our place was one of the few that didn't burn do to the efforts of neighbors and finely a back burn around the top of the mountain.
I went up several days last week and worked on some small fires on the edge of the property.
Lots of devistation on both Napa and Sonoma sides.
My heart goes out to all that lost their homes and buisnesses this last week.
Looking forward to getting back home and some normalcy

If you'll source the material, I'll plan a weekend in November to come and help rebuild the wall with ya. I'm fat and slow but can swing a shovel and have tools and a truck.

Welcome home evacuees. Remember you have to exhale before you can once again fill your lungs. I still have a hard time feeling any sympathy for anyone complaining about the ash residue. It’s a combination of life and homes remember that.

Sunday night, 11:15 PM, oblivious to the world I took the dog outside to what seemed like a nuclear holocaust.
