Whatís Burning?

The air quality suddenly went bad this evening. I was out for a walk with my family and when we got back home we noticed massive burning smells. Where is it coming from? When I looked online, it said thereís a fire in Santa Cruz. But isnít that city very far away from Sunnyvale?

If the winds are high enough smoke from fires hundreds of miles away can make it to the bay within a few hours. So smoke from Santa Cruz making it to Sunnyvale is not much of anything really.

MAPS.GOOGLE.COM for distances.

santa cruz is also the name of the entire mountain range to your east, a county to your south east-ish, and a town within that county.

https://abc7news.com/weather/satelli...fires/6376783/

it's kinda hard to determine which smoke you're actually smelling because the bay area is windy and swirly (uinless it's stagnant, yay inversion layers!!), which is part of the reason it was, is, a huge target for nuclear weapons in the cold war. the fallout goes everywhere. so does the smoke.

but, it's likely the "CZU August Complex Fire (also being called the La Honda Fire)" which is the closest one to us here in the south bay.

We're an odd site to check on fires.
Local news website or Google would get you every answer you need.
