I got my dream job, and then three months later the world shut down and now I do the dream job from my garage.

Some day I'll be back to it in person.

I love my job,

as I'm an important cog,

in the american industrial complex,

to provide quality beer for the free world.

My personal affirmation I created during my time @ Anheuser Busch.

It helped grind out 18 years of grave shift of my 25.

I haven't been doing that since 2015

But that job was also one of my favorites. Who doesn't want to go to Hawaii for a week a month on the company dime.

I love doing what I do. It’s exactly the thing that I wanted to be doing when asked “what do you want to be when you grow up” besides astronaut of course.

Unfortunately my chosen profession, despite its highly technical nature, does not pay nearly as well as even some simple labor jobs. So I’m glad my side hustle does. Keep buying iPhones people. Just keep buying them. Because if I start really depending on my career for money, I might not like it so much.

I'm currently in the process of transitioning careers. I just finished my Masters in Counseling and applying for the various positions in my area for school counseling. Trying to focus on High School and Middle School but with COVID, many school districts put hiring freezes and with some of the interviews I did get, I was passed up either because of my lack of experience or because I didn't have "in" or know someone on the interview panel.

Rather frustrating because my own school passed me up for another intern from the Principal's last school who never stepped foot on this campus. It was a slap to the face and really sent the message that it's really about who you know at my school district.

I forgot to share.

I work in a laboratory drawing blood from folks. I am so sick of it but I can't quit because the pay and benefits are better than I can make elsewhere. They got me by the wallet. I don't have the time to go to school or anything so I'm kinda stuck in a rut.

I used to do doordash in my free time on the moto and I liked that a lot but since the Covid hit I quit so I would reduce the chance of catching or spreading the rona.

I love love love my job and am grateful every day for my ability to get paid helping people improve their situation. The calculations compliance and guideline changes can be a grind, but at the end of the day its totally worth it.

I do enjoy my job, for the most part. I'm an ER nurse and there are definitely bad days and shitty situations (and plenty of shitty people) but I love my coworkers and I like a job that lets me use my hands and brain.

I wish the rest of the country paid as well as the Bay Area because I'd like to leave CA, but anywhere I go would likely be a 40-70% pay cut. So I'm sticking it out here because it's a good gig. You also don't see many old ER nurses. As of now there isn't much else I'd rather do with my skillset but it's something to think about.

I considered doing Uber/Lyft because we bought a nice newer car. It qualifies for the highest price tier for both services, except for the fact that it's not black. Who knew rich snobs wouldn't set foot into a premium luxury vehicle because it's navy blue (a color option that actually cost more than plain black)? The price difference is about half, so fuckem. We'll just use the miles to enjoy the car for ourselves.

I'm my own boss, I get to work with cool people, play with fun tools, learn constantly, communicate great ideas, and deal with crippling imposter syndrome.

To be fair I don't really like traveling in general out side of certain times of the year, and at that time I rather just do it on my own dime and spent time however I want.

I got to do a couple of stretches in Dublin Ireland last year for work. That was pretty cool.

In the space I am in now, almost all the players have big installations in Dublin, Northern VA, and rando spots in Oregon.

What I'm good at, was hired for doing well in the past and was hired specifically to do, do better than most people, and do profitably, I greatly enjoy. I get to do it maybe 10%-15% of the time.

All of the work around the work, the commute, the crappy office environment (on hiatus during 'Rona), and trying to make a buck gets me down. What's one to do?
