I like my job pretty well and love my team, but my project load is some bullshit.

Under California law, severance pay is not considered wages for unemployment purposes. Instead, it is considered a payment in recognition of your past service. Even if it is paid out in installments, as yours may be, it doesn't count against your unemployment.

Interesting, thank you. I will be on "paid administrative leave" so I'm still on the payroll for the duration which I assumed would make me ineligible. I'll definitely dive deeper and see whats up

I have never known anyone in your industry who did not burn out. They either throw up their hands and walk, or graduate up to a management position where they direct policy and procedure and no longer deal with clients directly.

Humans are too awful to human for a living for an extended period.

I am enjoying my new job a bunch. CNC machinist/programmer in the prototype shop, at that electric car maker in Fremont. The previous job was getting old anyway. I am learning new software and starting on 5 axis machining centers. For 40 years, I still enjoy “making chips”. Coworkers & boss are way cool. Walking thru the big building, seeing all the aspects of car making is fascinating.

Totally agree. You and I do different things but see versions of the same people.
I'm a drug/alcohol counselor at a residential treatment facility.

I'm a full-time stay at home dad, it's hard AF but very rewarding. Still, some days I'd rather be working sanitation in Oakland.

Just wait till your kids discover dads tools work on the bathroom plumbing, you will be.

Had absolutely zero intention on following the path that I have, but alas, life has a way of changing on you sometimes. Both degrees are in Criminal Justice...I don't work anywhere near that world. Fell back on what I knew and was good at, instead. Money is excellent, hours are good, people are generally okay, superiors are encouraging and good to deal with. All in all, it's not a bad gig. Being recession proof helps out immensely as well.

I have Alaska MVP Gold, Hilton Dimond, and National Executive status. Haven't gone anywhere since the second to last week of February

I was supposed to go to Singapore and back to Dublin this year too.

Can we pay you to just fake an Irish accent and go flip out at the airport demanding transport home?

I hope to retire as early as possible. Like 55 years old. I gain no pleasure, self respect, or enjoyment from "work". It's generic and interchangeable and nobody would miss me if I'm gone. I work solely to provide money and a good life. There's no pride. I do and say whatever they want to hear so they keep paying me. My opinion is not valued by the company at large.
